The Nuclear Services Design Engineering Department provides design and troubleshooting services for various tools used in the maintenance, inspection and refurbishment of nuclear power plants. We also provided periodical on-site support during the execution of work. We are a dynamic group where the nature of the work is always changing and no two days are ever the same.
JOB PURPOSE
Design software/computer hardware for use in nuclear services field work. Troubleshoot electronic issues with inspection and maintenance tools.
JOB STRUCTURE AND COMMUNICATIONS
- This job reports to the Nuclear Services Design Engineering Manager.
- The incumbent interfaces heavily with nuclear services Project Engineers, Component Project Engineers, Field Technicians and Boilermakers.
- Works with fabrication vendors.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Design software for field services work
- Obtain design requirements from customer documentation or input from other team members to ensure the software/hardware functions as intended.
- Write software using Microchip MPlab and Visual Studio in C#/C and design components using Eagle PCB design, E3 and Solidworks.
- Test and debug software.
- Design controller hardware.
Tooling fabrication
- Create manufacturing drawings for tools using Solidworks.
- Work with fabrication vendors, providing them specifications and design to acquire components as required
Other
- Provide oversight of tool use during field execution, if necessary.
- Perform work in nuclear power plants on critical tooling applications.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Applied Science or its equivalent (no preference to program). College Diplomas acceptable.
- At least 3 years of experience in a software/hardware designer role.
- Proficiency with C# and C is required.
- Experience with Microchip MPlab or similar software is required.
- Experience with Eagle PCB (or similar software) and E3 (or similar software) is required.
- Familiar with SolidWorks (or similar) is required.
- Willing and able to travel to nuclear power plant sites (to our customer locations, both domestic and international). Entails up to 20% travel and durations can range from 1 day to 4 weeks.
