We are currently seeking a Manager, HR & Talent Acquisition to support our Cambridge, ON location.

JOB PURPOSE

The Manager, HR & Talent Acquisition provides leadership and support to Field Services & Projects plus Corporate Functions (HR, IT, Finance) in the areas of employee/labour relations, recruitment, compensation, change management, training & development, succession planning and performance management programs. In addition, this role will be responsible for overseeing the Talent Acquisition function and team for the Canadian business.

JOB STRUCTURE AND COMMUNICATIONS

  • Reports to the Director, Human Resources with a dotted line to the EVP Field Services & Projects.
  • Responsible for overseeing the talent acquisition function, including managing the talent acquisition team for the Canadian business. Works closely with the corporate Sr Manager, Talent Acquisition, the Sr. Manager, Talent Management and HR Managers for each business unit.
  • Provides direction to an HR Coordinator (dotted line reporting relationship).
  • Demonstrates a high level of influence and communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with staff at all levels of the organization and with outside contacts including, but not limited to, external legal counsel, HR counterparts in the industry and at times, union leadership.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

HR Business Partner

  • Supports the EVP Field Services & Projects and Corporate Functions in implementing business objectives.
  • Stays current on legislative changes and industry best practices in order to develop and implement HR policies and procedures. Strong understanding of the Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, AODA, the Human Rights Code, PIPEDA and other relevant legislation.
  • Serves as a point of contact for employees, managers and department heads for all HR-related inquiries, providing guidance and assistance as required.
  • Change agent and coach to all managers in all aspects of successful and proactive employee relations management.
  • Supports the department managers and supervisors in dealing with employee relations items such as performance management, progressive discipline and conflict resolution and ensure items are properly documented.
  • Handles employee relations issues and investigations working closely with Legal and Canadian Ethics & Compliance.
  • Supports and/or oversees the development, maintenance and application of key HR programs such as succession planning, job hierarchy, compensation planning, performance appraisal and change management for BWXT.
  • In alignment with BWXT Compensation policies, recommends compensation packages for new hires and internal promotions while ensuring internal equity and competitiveness of existing employees.
  • Monitors the success of on-boarding and new hire orientation processes and programs for the Canadian operation.
  • Reviews, prepares and advises on all employee termination events. Supports and guides department managers through the termination process and liaises with external legal counsel when necessary.
  • Oversees the administration, completion and renewal of all temporary employment contracts for Fields Services/Projects and Corporate groups.


Talent Acquisition

  • Leads Talent Acquisition for the Canadian business. Monitors and analyzes labour market trends in order to develop strategies for acquisition and retention. Works closely with business leaders and other HR Managers on executing hiring plans.
  • Works closely with the Sr. Manager, Talent Management on resourcing strategies to support succession planning.
  • In conjunction with the recruitment team, develops and maintains relationships with internal, external partners and vendors to support the talent acquisition process including but not limited to partner university and colleges, staffing agencies, career fair providers and our indigenous partnerships.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR Management, Business Administration or related field coupled with a minimum of 10 years’ HR experience, at least 5 years working in a HR Business Partner/Senior HR role.
  • Experience with union management and labour relations is an asset.
  • Strong leadership and partnership skills – demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and be influential with all levels of the organization including senior management.
  • Business acumen – ability to use insight of organization’s internal workings and the external business environment to improve the human capital outcomes that affect business performance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in talent acquisition processes, including recruitment, selection, and onboarding.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage employee relations activities, including investigations, disciplinary actions, and grievances.
  • Proven ability to lead and coach change within all levels of management.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop and implement effective HR and talent acquisition strategies.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in HR information systems and software.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a proactive and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
