The Opportunity: The HACCP Specialist is directly responsible for the management and maintenance of the HACCP system at MLF Brandon to ensure the plant’s ability to demonstrate ongoing compliance. They liaise with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) regarding HACCP-related issues.

- Functions as the back up to the FSQA Supervisor as required
- Maintains HACCP documents according to the written program, ensures that documents are reviewed/revised as scheduled
- Liaises with other stakeholders, initiates and assists in the development of Standard Operating Procedures
- Ensures that new policies, procedures and changes are implemented with appropriate documentation
- Manages the corrective action program to reduce the occurrence of repeat deficiencies/deviations
- Ensures the plant is in compliance with the written program on an ongoing basis
- Acts as Point of Contact for CFIA on Preventive Control Plan (PCP) and Standard Inspection Process (SIP) issues (formerly CVS issues)
- Provides timely and effective feedback to the FSQA Supervisor, FSQA Manager and other stakeholders as required
- Implements and maintains a compliance reporting system to track plant compliance to the PCP
- Liaises with the FSQA Technicians (HACCP) to maintain document control, tracking and to ensure compliance
- Maintains current knowledge of regulatory changes, new policies and industry standards.
- Liaises with HACCP Specialists at other MLF plants to share knowledge and experiences
- Develops and implements training programs for employees
- Prevents the ongoing production of non-compliant product when non-conformities are observed or identified
- Controls any non-compliant product that has been produced, performs a food safety assessment and determines appropriate methods of disposal
- Bachelor of Science or Diploma in Food Safety/Science program or equivalent experience
- Strong understanding of Sanitation, SOPs, Pre-requisite Programs, HACCP, CCPs and GMPs
- HACCP I-II certificate
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills
- 2-3 years experience in the Food industry is preferred
- Computer proficiency with spreadsheet and database software (Visio, Minitab would be an asset)
- Superior time management, organizational and communication skills
- List of behavioral requirements
