The Parkland School Division has a Permanent Part-time (0.893 FTE) Library Technician II position available at Copperhaven School in Spruce Grove, Alberta. The successful applicant will work in small groups and emergent literacy groups and provide nutrition program coordination.
The successful candidate will work with staff to promote a love of reading, grow communication skills, resource the library with books and other learning materials, maintain the library space and work collaboratively with staff to facilitate cross-curricular learning in single and multi-age settings.
Function and Purpose of Position
A Library Technician II will maintain the day to day operations of the library. You will work with the school community including staff and students, to support diverse learning in a welcoming cross-curricular atmosphere. As part of a collaborative team and with the ability to work independently, you will be successful in creating a learning commons for all.
Library Technician II’s May
iii) Experience with Destiny, Discovery Education, Google Apps and technology hardware would be an asset.
iv) Implementing and supporting youth programming in a variety of contexts incorporating technology, art, and literacy.
Equivalencies will be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes
Decision Making
Library Technicians are required to make decisions, with the appropriate approval, based on the needs and requirements of the school community relating to the Learning Commons. It is essential to keep the library organized and to ensure resources are easily accessible.

Physical Demands
The Library Technician II may be required to routinely lift items weighting up to 50 lbs. Sometimes, heavier lifting may be required.
Library Technicians work indoors except when supervising children outdoors or going on field trips as needed.
Library Technicians may have the same holiday schedule as teachers, including a long summer break as well as winter and spring breaks. However, they work on a ten-month contract basis and therefore are not paid during the summer months.
The scheduled hours to be worked will be determined by each specific position.
This position may require the use of a personal vehicle.

Library Technicians must agree to respect the confidentiality and personal integrity of students, parents, teachers and other staff.
This position requires an original copy of a current clean criminal record check with vulnerable sector and an original copy of a child intervention record check.
This position is covered by the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 5543
Hours of Work: 31.25 hours/week (Monday to Friday 9:00 AM to 3:45 PM)
Pay Rate: $23.40/hr - $26.35/hr (Pay Group 3)

Library Technician II’s May
- Work under the direction of the Principal and/or designate
- Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Must enjoy working with students and staff
- Management of literature including circulation, ordering and collection of materials and resources.
- Understanding of the Alberta Education document, Learning Commons Policy and Guidelines.
- Ability to create a positive environment that excites students.
- Support an inclusive forward thinking learning environment.
- Ability to network with others beyond the school setting.
- Familiarity with Maker Space and other innovative library practices.
- Ability to support instruction, research, literacy and learning in a digital/technology based and print-rich environment.
- Classifying and cataloguing new materials by assigning numbers, levels, subjects, etc.
- Prepare materials and resources for activities programmed and planned by, or in collaboration with, the classroom teachers.
- Ability to maintain a safe and secure environment for both students and staff through the application of de-escalation strategies and nonviolent crisis intervention techniques.
- Help encourage and maintain appropriate behavior for school
- Provide support, assistance and supervision to students in a school setting.
- Ability to build relationships with students and staff.
- Use technology to record evidence of learning to share with stakeholders
- Communicate with Principal or designate about progress of programming and maintain a record of learning activities and resources.
- Provide assistance to students using the space and resources.
- Supervision will be required as directed by the Principal or designate
- Supervise small groups on field trips, in the learning commons, and in other learning spaces throughout the school setting
- Providing advice, assistance and direction to build student skills and knowledge.
- Tutor, mentor and coach students in the school setting
- Other assigned duties as required
- Education:
- High School Diploma.
- Experience:
- 3 to 5 years of related experience.

- Ability to communicate observations regarding health and behaviours of students to the teacher (as gathered in logs, charts, and data sheets).
Physical Demands
