Job Description

We are seeking Business Development Specialist to join our team in Toronto,ON or Burnaby,BC.

We are seeking a highly motivated sales minded individual who is looking to build on their existing sales skills and experience to join our firm and grow our inside sales team. As the Business Development Specialist, you will help expand the reach of our products and services through existing client relationships and exploring future ones. The main purpose of the role is to generate sales opportunities for the Partnership Development and Client Services teams through Lead Generation and lead nurturing activities. The Business Development Specialist's success will be measured both quantitatively and qualitatively through product sales growth and the ability to collaborate with other departments.

The Business Development Specialist will:

  • Be responsible for new business development through cold calling, lead generation and networking in your designated region
  • Maintain positive relations with prospects, including key decision makers and administrators
  • Identify the client’s group insurance landscape (how many employees actively on the plan, when does the plan renew, etc.)
  • Identify creative opportunities for generating new leads and business opportunities
  • Active participation in prospecting for and securing new clients from leads generated through targeted proactive networking and referrals
  • Participate in continuing education to maintain a high level of knowledge of employee benefit legislation, administrative issues, plan rules, claim management and client specific procedures
  • Participate in industry conferences, seminars, etc., in order to promote services and keep abreast of industry trends and activities
  • Represent People Corporation in the market and be a successful brand ambassador
  • Gather data necessary to run campaigns on targeted client groups who would benefit from specific products
  • Consult with industry partners and internal staff to obtain product/process feedback.


To be successful as Business Development Specialist with People Corporation, you will need:

  • Requires 1 - 2 years relevant work experience or equivalent in office or marketing role
  • Sales experience with a passion for generating results and closing new business opportunities
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment
  • Customer service focused, with the ability to work alongside the new business development process
  • Excellent communication and active listening skills
  • Self-starter who is confident, enthusiastic and is driven to succeed
  • Be a hands-on team player, goal oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Completion of the Life License Qualification Program (or in process)


All-star candidates will have:

  • Previous experience in the group benefits industry
  • Cold calling experience
