Are you our ideal candidate?

Reporting to the AVP, Corporate Communication, the Manager, Internal Communication will play an important role in our team’s mission to inspire and engage our audiences through compelling stories. The role will be responsible for leading a team of communication professionals, building strategic communication plans from established corporate objectives and overseeing execution of content creation throughout the communications development process. The role will have a significant influence on driving awareness, connection to corporate strategy, organizational culture, and engagement amongst Definity employees. It will work closely with a collaborative team of communicators across the Integrated Marketing and Communication Team, as well as with representatives throughout the business and company executives.

This role is an excellent fit for a communication professional with demonstrated experience in employee communication and proven leadership skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders and business units.

This is a contract position, based in Waterloo, ON or Toronto, ON. We are currently working in a hybrid model, with three days per week in our home office and some travel between Toronto and Waterloo for team gatherings.

Your responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic planning and consultation to internal clients that will achieve overall business or project objectives
  • Oversee and support three direct reports on conceptualization, research, writing, and editing of internal communications
  • Intake projects and synthesize information to prioritize and assign work based on team capability and capacity
  • Ensure communications to employees are compelling, timely, and aligned cross-functionally
  • Act as an advisor on communication best practices and corporate standards
  • Develop and manage performance measures and indicators of effective communications
  • Create and refine processes and procedures for multi-channel delivery of employee communications
  • Advocate for adoption and familiarization of new ways of working that encourage greater efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity


Experience and skills:

  • Must have at least 5-8 years of progressive professional experience in communications, ideally at a public company
  • Success in leading high performing teams in a communication function
  • Superior measurement and evaluation skills, with the ability to translate insights into actionable recommendations and leverage data to drive strategic decision-making
  • In depth understanding of content creation and strategic delivery of messages in a variety of mediums
  • Practical understanding of IDEA best practices for marketing and communications
  • A strategic thinker who is always looking for opportunities to improve communications and increase efficiency
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, collaboration skills, sound judgment, and well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Understands effective business approaches to elevate customer service, teamwork, employee accountability, and flexibility
  • Knowledge of French is an asset but not a requirement
