As a Chief Estimator working in the Building Operations team at Pomerleau Construction, you will support new and ongoing project growth and challenge industry standards with your trade-driven expertise and knowledge. Working on large-scale building and infrastructure projects – ranging from $1.5 million to upwards of $1 billion – you will work closely with our proposals team and various client groups to secure bids and ensure project success. 

What You Will Do

  • Lead the preconstruction phase of our local projects, collaborating with project stakeholders to develop comprehensive project plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Conduct detailed quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and value engineering analyzes to optimize project scope and budget.
  • Manage the bidding process, including soliciting bids from subcontractors and vendors, evaluating proposals, and negotiating contracts.
  • Review bid documents, specifications, and drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients during the preconstruction phase, addressing inquiries, providing updates on project progress, and presenting cost-saving alternatives.
  • Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to establish project goals, objectives, and design criteria.
  • Supervises and mentors a team of estimators, providing guidance and support throughout the preconstruction process.
  • Foster has a collaborative and innovative team environment focused on achieving excellence in preconstruction services.
  • Identify and assess potential risks and opportunities associated with construction projects, developing strategies to mitigate risks and maximize project success.
  • Conduct thorough risk analyzes and feasibility studies to inform decision-making and project planning.
  • Implement process improvements and innovative solutions to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and competitiveness in preconstruction services.

This role could be for you if you have

  • Bachelor's degree or College Diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in preconstruction management, or lead estimation role with a focus on building and infrastructure construction projects.
  • A knack for working with construction estimating software, project management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Analyzing and problem-solving is what you do best! Your attention to detail and accuracy is like no other.
  • A passion for motivating and effectively leading a team where collaboration and mentorship are the keys to your success.

Additional Assets Include

  • Professional certifications such as Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) or Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • Previous experience working on design-build, construction management at-risk (CMAR), or public-private partnership (P3) project delivery methods.
  • Familiarity with sustainable construction practices and green building certifications.
  • A fluency in both French and English (written and oral).
