We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Transportation Designer to join our team at the Guelph, ON office. We welcome applications from recent graduates of both university and college technologist programs who are eager to contribute to our dynamic projects.

The Role

  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation Inroads / Openroads to design and produce functional, preliminary, and detailed design drawings for various classes of roads, sewer and watermain projects;
  • Produce detailed engineering drawings including plan, profile, and section drawings;
  • Proactively advance design techniques and procedures to support designers, project managers and technicians;
  • Prepare cost estimates, quantity calculations, and tender packages;
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, including necessary calculations;
  • Conduct site visits and perform construction field reviews; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Professional Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications

We are considering applications from candidates with:

  • A Degree in Civil Engineering accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) or on PEO’s Academic Equivalency List, or Diploma/certificate in Civil Engineering from a Civil Engineering Technology Program
  • Working Knowledge of MS Office 365 programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • A passion and interest in transportation and linear infrastructure design
  • Strong time management and organizational skills;
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, CAD) with demonstrated interest and ability to learn new systems;
  • Experience in the design or construction of roads, storm drainage infrastructure, and/or water /wastewater linear infrastructure design is considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Bluebeam and/or Adobe Acrobat is considered an asset.

  • High degree of problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team atmosphere
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Candidates should have a desire to develop and grow the following skills:

  • Establishing and maintaining effective business relationships with other consultants, employees, elected officials, agencies, and members of the public.
  • Working independently with minimum supervision.
  • Project management, presentation, business/technical writing, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and customer service skills.
