Current Rate of Pay: Min $65.18- Max $81.46

Position Summary:

The Director is responsible for facilitating patient care related activities within the Critical Care Program. They provide leadership and supervision to all unit personnel to ensure they are providing high quality, safe, evidence-based care, in partnership with the patient and families and in keeping with the vision, mission and values of GGH.

The Director leads, in collaboration with staff, patients, families and stakeholders, the departmental strategic direction and is accountable for implementation of all operations and initiatives, ensuring they align with departmental and strategic goals of the organization. They report on patient outcomes and are responsible for ensuring operational budgets are balanced while ensuring cost effective utilization of resources.

The Director ensures they provide an environment that supports and advances professional practice, and leads clinical staff in implementing evidence-based practices that are sensitive to limited resources within a patient centered care philosophy. The Director is accountable for all management and leadership of staff. They serve as role model for professional and organizational core competencies and support quality patient-care outcomes.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a clinical leadership role
  • Master’s Degree in a Health Related discipline
  • Registered Nurse with current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Past critical care experience and critical care certification preferred
  • Telemetry and ACLS knowledge strongly recommended
  • Lean or equivalent Quality Improvement education/training required
  • Membership in relevant professional organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a self-directed manner as well as collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated experience in promoting high quality, interdisciplinary work environments that result in safe, quality, patient-centered outcomes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of complex healthcare systems process improvements using Lean methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to orchestrate organizational change initiatives to improve both clinical and fiscal metrics
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, execute and evaluate projects
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous quality improvement
  • Commitment to working in partnership with patients and families and building a culture dedicated to improving the patient experience
  • Ability to apply communication, facilitation and conflict management skills and expertise to influence and negotiate effective quality of care process and resolution of issues/disputes
  • Commitment to on-going learning and professional development
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues and physicians
  • Proven facilitation, communication, relationship building, collaboration, leadership and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze fiscal, patient care data and statistics, along with excellent computer application skills
  • Experience leading Accreditation teams
  • Strong understanding of health care roles, scope of practice and health-care related legislation (e.g. RHPA, QCIPA, Nursing Act, Mental Health Act, CNO standards)
  • Demonstrated ability to access, interpret, and synthesize evidence based practices
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the clinical practice in the care of critically ill patients.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of patient flow and bed allocation processes, including working knowledge of infection control guidelines as they pertain to patient flow decision making.
