Description

Are you a CPA with a passion for Financial Planning and Analysis? Our client is a global publicly traded distribution company based in the West GTA. Due to exciting growth, our client is expanding and adding a Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis to the Finance team. This is a hybrid position and requires a minimum of 3 days onsite.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis provides financial expertise, business analysis and oversight for Financial Planning and Analysis and Internal and External Reporting. The Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis provides guidance to management on financial-related matters and decisions for both short-term and long-term strategic initiatives, operational improvement projects and other business priorities. The Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis is a strong Finance Business Partner who collaborates with leaders across the organization on driving business results to meet targets.

To be considered for the position of Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis, you must be a CPA in good standing with CPA Ontario. You should have 7-10 years of relevant FP& A experience. You must demonstrate progression in your FP& A career with large companies with revenues >$500M. Preference will be for candidates with experience with publicly traded companies. While not mandatory, prior experience in a Big 4 CPA firm is an asset.

Requirements

  • Partner with business leadership to maintain a strong understanding of the key business drivers of the assigned area, specific business processes and priorities, and future strategic direction of the assigned area.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to ensure strong execution, delivery of customer value and positive business results.
  • Support month end closing process primarily focusing on monthly reviews and periodic business planning sessions. Involves evaluating financial and operational results, monitoring data, and contributing to the development of key initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of business to connect the dots: identify trends vs anomalies; connections between inventory ownership, sales and working capital; and be able to convey the drivers of the business results and why the results were achieved or not achieved to Corporate and Executive Leadership.
  • Responsible for all planning, forecasting, and reporting processes of the company, including monthly forecasts, annual budget, and five-year business outlook, while providing visibility on profitability, efficiencies, and key operational metrics.
  • Create and implement a monthly reporting package that includes full financial statements and detailed reporting of key P& L drivers and other financial metrics along with comprehensive explanations of variances and trends.
  • Perform periodic analyses of variances as compared to plan, forecast and prior periods. Prepare presentations and documentation of budget and forecast information and other ad hoc requests.
  • Develop additional reporting as needed by the business to provide insight and create action plans to improve results. Primary focus could be creating dashboards to help drive behavior.
  • Bring a continuous improvement mindset to the organization to develop more efficient and better ways to achieve our business objectives.
  • Develop Cost to Serve models to measure customer profitability and profitability by revenue stream.
  • Provide data accessibility, accuracy, and quality for the Finance team by partnering with our Technology and Data Integrity teams.
  • Manage the Capital Spending process which includes developing the Capital Spend budget, ongoing reporting cadence, and partnering with the Project Sponsor to substantiate the rationale for projects through business case development.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • CPA designation
  • 7-10 years of experience in an analytical role in finance, accounting, business management, quantitative analysis, or economics.
  • Take ownership and be adaptive to the fast-paced nature of the business to manage priorities and pivot as those priorities or scope changes.
  • At least 5 years of experience in an FPA environment for a medium-sized to large sized company (sales > $500MM).
  • Past experience working in a publicly traded company is preferred.
  • Big 4 accounting experience is an asset.
  • Strong work ethic with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Experience working as the financial liaison on a business team and ability to build and maintain strong cross functional relationships.
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting, strategic planning, and financial modeling experience along with a solid knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Effective time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing, tracking details, and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates.
  • Power BI or other business intelligence tool experience (preferred)
  • TM1 and HFM experience (preferred)
  • Advanced level skill in Microsoft Excel modeling and financial business modeling.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form with management, internal and external customers.
