The Central Zone Health Promotion Team with Mental Health and Addictions is the place for you.

The Health Promoter plays a critical role in the mission of the Team to help Nova Scotians thrive and lead flourishing lives. The Health Promotion Team takes positive action across Nova Scotia to promote mental wellness and health equity, as well as supporting substance use and gambling related harm prevention and reduction and injury prevention efforts. We are focused on population health level action and engage and collaborate with a range of community partners. The Health Promotion Team is not only an incubator of ideas to improve the community health of Nova Scotia but we are focused on getting results, outcomes and taking action. As part of the Provincial Health Promotion Team within the Community Wellness Supports Portfolio, and reporting to the Provincial Manager — Health Promotion, the Health Promotor is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of health promotion initiatives across the life-span. These initiatives will be designed to prevent and reduce the harms and injuries associated with substance use, gambling and to promote mental wellness and health equity. Working as part of a diverse team both provincially and in the Central Zone, the Health Promotor must have advanced knowledge of health promotion strategies and theories, healthy public policy, population health, harm reduction, and the social, structural and commercial determinants of health.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion or Health Education preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Minimum 1 year related experience utilizing health promotion frameworks to inform healthy public policy changes and to develop programs aimed at promoting health, preventing disease, and enhancing population health outcomes
  • Background and experience in research methods, policy development, analysis and critical appraisal including awareness of evidence informed decision making
  • Strong analytical ability to interpret data and communicate results in a way that is meaningful to key audiences
  • Knowledge of local community resources
  • Experience in facilitation, project management, planning, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Proficient in Windows & Microsoft Office Suite Package with superior skills in in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook programs
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, manages time efficiently, adheres to timelines, follows team and individualized work plans, and prioritizes tasks.
  • Non-violent crisis intervention, Mental Health First Aid, CPR/Standard First Aid preferred
  • Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and appropriate insurance coverage is required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Compensation And Benefits

$35.81 - $45.00 Hourly

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
