AECOM Mississauga is hiring a Senior Design Coordinator, Tunnels

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Senior design coordinator on a number of world class underground projects mainly for transportation
• Organize independently work plans and design activities for projects of medium/high complexity
• Coordinate junior engineers, geotechnical and hydro-geological engineers, BIM experts and drafting teams to produce drawings and reports of complex underground structures on time

• Clear knowledge and expertise of the basic principles of soil and rock mechanics and ground-structure interactions
• Participate in team work contributing with specific geotechnical and structural expertise on underground assets
• Use commercial numerical modelling tools including both Finite and Distinct Elements software (FLAC, Plaxis, etc)
• Design of tunnels in both TBM and SEM (Sequential Excavation Methods)
• Design of SOE (support of excavation) systems of subway stations, shafts, pump stations, cut and cover boxes, etc.
• Participate and inputs to constructability reviews, risk management plans, value engineering sessions, QA/QC comments
• Contribute to preparation of contract documents, technical specifications, design report and drawing

• Support tunnels proposals (both RFQs and RFPs) with technical inputs, including methodologies and techniques

 



Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (civil, structural, construction, geotechnical, etc.)
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in tunnel projects
  • P.Eng or eligible within 18 months

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional registration in Ontario or equivalent professional association registration and ability / willingness to transfer to Ontario in limited time
  • Experience with delivery of detailed design for the construction of: underpinning, deep caverns, TBM segmental lining tunnels, and support of excavation (secant piles, d-walls, etc)
  • Thoroughly knowledgeable of various tunneling methods and techniques, geotechnical aspects, deep cut and cover, GBRs, and difficult ground conditions
  • Experience with both large diameter (5m +) and trenchless tunneling methods
  • Knowledge of Geotechnical, Hydro-geology, Geological engineering and Rock mechanics in the Toronto Region in equivalent geo-conditions
  • Proven knowledge of analytical and numerical analysis methods for underground works and tunnels
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills applied to design activities for contractors
  • Excellent oral and written skills as well as interpersonal/teamwork skills
  • Ability to work in a matrix organization
  • Proven success to supervise and review the work of less experienced engineers, train interns on numerical modelling
  • Ability to liaise with other disciplines, professionals, clients
  • Ability to promote digital tools and initiatives across the organization
