About The Role

Exergy is looking for a talented and self-motivated Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team. Customers may approach us with a problem, process or even just a concept or idea - and you would draw on your understanding of the physical world and engineering principles to design solutions. Every project is different, so the role may include working in a multidisciplinary team or working independently to deliver a mechanical solution direct to the customer. Using parametric CAD tools to prepare ideas for 3D printing, injection molding, machining or sheet metal fabrication, you will need an understanding of a variety of manufacturing processes combined with your problem-solving skills.

You will be part of the mechanical engineering group reporting to the Senior Director of Innovation Advisory & Engineering Services. Key Responsibilities

  • Mechanical Design & Analysis: Design and analyze mechanical systems, including pressure vessels, pumps, valves, piping, and structures, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Project Leadership: Lead project planning, execution, and management, including scope definition, scheduling, and cost estimation.
  • Client Collaboration: Work closely with clients to understand their needs and provide innovative engineering solutions.
  • Technical Documentation: Prepare and review engineering drawings, P&IDs, technical reports, and vendor documents.
  • Vendor Management: Evaluate vendor bids, review technical documents, select/size equipment and make recommendations for equipment procurement.
  • Manufacturing Support: Optimize designs for manufacturability and work with the manufacturing team to troubleshoot and refine prototypes.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to internal process improvements, maintaining high accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate design issues and project updates with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Feasibility & Economic Assessments: Participate in evaluating and recommending viable pathways for technology adoption applying a technoeconomic lens.
  • On-Demand Manufacturing: Participate in developing solutions to digitize supply chains and reduce lead times and inventory costs.

Qualifications

In this role, it is required to be technically proficient, proactive, detail oriented with a positive attitude and effective communication skills. Candidates for this position will possess the qualifications outlined below:

  • Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering
  • APEGA Licensed Professional Engineer (PEng)
  • 8+ years of industry experience focused on engineering design
  • Hands-on experience on a project site and/or in a fabrication environment
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Technical Experience:
  • Strong skills in parametric CAD software (e.g. Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, etc.) to produce mechanical designs and experience creating engineering drawings
  • Experience with variety of manufacturing processes including machining, welding, injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, and Additive Manufacturing (AM)
  • Experience with selection and sizing of mechanical and process equipment and piping
  • Experience with fabrication and testing of mechanical and process packages/systems
  • Experience in multidisciplinary engineering projects
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations
  • People & Communication Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships.
  • Desire to work in a collaborative work environment with personal commitment to get the job done.
  • Ability to coach and be coachable in an agile and fast-paced work setting.
  • Excellent verbal communication including leading meetings with multi-disciplinary stakeholders.
  • Excellent written communication including technical report writing.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Added qualifications considered an asset:
  • Proficiency in stress, thermal, and fluid analysis (FEA, CFD)
  • Project management certification (PMP or equivalent)
  • Advanced Excel skills
