Position Type: Part Time, 15 hours per week (3:00 - 6:00 pm, Monday to Friday, 12-week contract with possibility of extension

Compensation: $22.38 (inclusive of funding provided)

SEC maintains its head office in Newmarket and provides public service signature expertise for immigrants, newcomers, early learning and development, Family Justice Service, Career and Labour market integration through programs such as Supervised Access, EarlyOn Child & Family Centres, Welcome Centre for Immigrant Services-Newmarket and several Before & After School and Licensed Childcare Programs.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a dedicated and adaptable Before and After School Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) to join our energetic team. In this role, the ECA will provide essential support to classroom educators in creating a welcoming, inclusive, and nurturing environment for all children. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of child development and a deep commitment to fostering a space that values diversity and supports the unique needs of every child.

As an ECA, you will collaborate with the team to ensure a safe and caring environment for children. You will also play a key role in supporting the planning and delivery of engaging programs, facilitating activities that promote physical activity, healthy eating, positive personal development, and overall wellness. We are seeking motivated, enthusiastic team players with knowledge of child development and effective behavior management practices.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the lead educators to plan and deliver inclusive, developmentally appropriate activities that encourage the growth of all children—socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically.
  • Assist in providing individualized support to children with diverse needs, helping them fully participate in classroom activities
  • Adapt materials and activities to meet the varying needs of children, ensuring that everyone can engage and learn at their own pace.
  • Foster a positive, respectful classroom atmosphere where every child feels welcome, supported, and celebrated for who they are.
  • Observe and document children’s progress, sharing insights with the lead educator and contributing to individualized learning strategies.
  • Assist with classroom management, maintaining a safe, organized, and inclusive learning space.
  • Encourage social interactions and collaboration among children, promoting an inclusive community where friendships can flourish.
  • Help with daily routines, including snack time, rest time, and personal care, ensuring that all children receive the support they need.
  • Participate in team meetings, contributing to discussions on how to continuously improve inclusive practices in the classroom.

Candidate Profile:

  • Completion of Secondary/High School
  • Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) or Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) Certificate is preferred.
  • Current Standard First Aid and Level C CPR certification.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work as a team member in a dynamic, complex environment.

Other:

  • This position requires after school hours and may require additional hours on PA Day or other Camp days.
  • Physical activity involved, including walking, standing, sitting, bending, kneeling, crouching or crawling, lifting and supporting children.
