Human Resources Employee Engagement Specialist

(40 hours/week)

Waterloo Office (In-Office)

The Human Resources Employee Engagement Specialist – will support the HR Management team and work on department projects/priorities, seeking to promote and develop effective Human Resources practices and department procedures for the best interests of all employees within Karis Disability Services. Under the coaching and mentorship of the Director of Human Resources and Human Resources Business Partners, the Human Resources Employee Engagement Specialist role will work on employment culture related projects impacting the organization and at the Waterloo Office. They will support Human Resources Business Partners and the Director of Human Resources in ongoing and project work to provide programs, policies and practices that promote retention and employment satisfaction for all employees of Karis. They will be involved in projects and committees relating to leadership development and succession planning and well as employee engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the completion of the Employee Satisfaction Survey for Karis, providing analysis and reporting on results. Participate in the development of outcomes and programs to address employee needs and preferences.
  • Work with the Workplace Learning department to develop and maintain current and relevant “How To” resources and standard operating procedures for supervisors.
  • Partner in research and creation of a Labour Relations strategy for the organization, including an employee engagement strategy for unionized employees.
  • Participate on committees as assigned by the Director of Human Resources, providing HR perspective and completing tasks assigned.
  • Provide Human Resources support to the Waterloo Office staff and managers, advising on all manner of HR matters (policy, contract extensions, performance management, conflict resolution, etc.). Directing Waterloo office leaders to resources and subject leads in the HR Department.
  • Support the Employee Engagement function at Waterloo Office, including taking meeting minutes, following up on feedback and accomplishing tasks related to improvement of culture and working conditions at the Waterloo Office, stepping into meetings as a designate for the Director of Human Resources to advise and support the Employee Engagement Reps with Human resources expertise.
  • Help develop, drive and participate in an exciting, welcoming and positive onboarding experiences for employees at the Waterloo Office
  • Generate and implement creative ideas to make it a great place to begin working and continue working, creating a culture of appreciation, celebration and teamwork.
  • Support HR Business Partners with activities and project work relating to their specialties (Conflict resolution, support of the HR Generalist, Health and Safety, Investigations, etc.) including taking meeting minutes, booking meetings, and taking away work tasks to complete toward the greater project completion.
  • Conduct research and provide information and ideas to the HR Management team relating to HR projects and initiatives.
  • Contribute to the quarterly key performance indicator reports for the Director and VP of Human Resources.
  • Manage the meeting schedule for the HR management team, changing appointments, booking rooms and equipment for meetings etc. Attend and take minutes for the HR Management team meetings, Waterloo Office Employee Engagement Representative meetings and other meetings, as requested by the Director of HR.
  • Create and deliver presentations in collaboration with HR Business Partners or other members of the HR department or districts.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of previous similar HR experience
  • University or College Diploma in Human Resources
  • CHRP, CHRL in progress is an asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong ability to organize time, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Working knowledge of Employment Standards, Labour Relations and Health & Safety legislation and best practices
