Salary: This position starts at $70,000 per year and increases to $96,325 per year, over a 10- year period. This salary range incorporates experience, yearly salary increments to reward years of service, employee growth and development within the organization.

Purpose of the job

DIVERSEcity Community Resources Society is seeking a full-time Finance Systems Specialist to oversee and provide support towards the maximization and improvement of our financial systems and processes. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Specialist is responsible for leading Financial System projects at DIVERSEcity.

The incumbent will plan, organize, direct, manage and review the work of staff engaged in financial system change; set performance and development goals, conduct performance evaluations; train, coach and mentor staff; make decisions regarding the selection, discipline and termination of staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to gather and analyze requirements translating into the functional design for solutions working with internal technology and external consulting teams;
  • Research existing and potentially new financial and payroll systems from a maximization and viability perspective;
  • Identify and design solutions for improving existing processes related to finance and payroll functions;
  • Develop internal standards and execute testing to validate the functionality and performance of system and process improvements;
  • Contribute to process documents and training plans to deliver and support end user training and facilitate adoption and sustainability of the solution;
  • Co-create the development of a long-term financial system roadmap for the organization;
  • Provides oversight on budgetary and contractual requirements related to the financial system work streams;
  • Identify change impacts and work with key stakeholders in managing the change process;
  • Identify risks and develop mitigation plans as appropriate;
  • Monitors, analyzes and provides reporting on the outcomes of financial systems and process improvements;
  • Ensure compliance with accounting principles, regulatory requirements, and internal policies;
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with all levels of the staff to provide information and answer any questions in regards to financial systems;
  • Mentors, develops, and trains employees to provide a solid understanding of procedures, policies, and functions relating to financial systems;
  • Provide coverage in the absence of other Finance Managers;
  • Special projects and other related duties, as required.

Key Liaison

  • Internally with Programs Managers/Directors,
  • Externally with auditors, banks, and external service providers.

Qualified candidates will posses:

  • A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent education and experience from a recognized program;
  • 5 to 10 years of related progressive experience in a complex labour relations environment (non-profit preferably) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
  • Knowledge of fund accounting, strong understanding of contract life cycle, types of contracts, and applicable government regulations;
  • Demonstrate ability to provide strong leadership and work independently and collegially in a team environment;
  • Demonstrate ability to work with a demanding work schedule with competing priorities simultaneously;
  • Experience in a community based non-profit society is an asset;
  • Strong negotiation, mediation, conflict resolution and contract interpretation skills;
  • Strong administrative, organizational and budget management skills;
  • Experience with financial and payroll systems including system implementation and improvements, Microsoft Office and other social media/systems applications.
