Position Summary

Support Staff Regular Part-time New Position

(First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements)

The Part-time Recreation Coordinator is responsible for motivating Conestoga students to engage in movement and healthy living initiatives. The incumbent will plan, coordinate, and facilitate recreational programming to support the growing and diverse student population. The successful candidate is responsible for overseeing, training, and coordinating student staff that facilitates student programming within the Student Recreation Centre and satellite campus offerings. The Coordinator will work closely with the Recreation & Health team to create a community of inclusivity, development, and personal wellness for all Conestoga students.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work 5 days per week on-site, primarily at the Doon Campus. This position will support a variety of Conestoga Campuses such as, but not limited to, Downtown Kitchener, Cambridge Fountain Street, Cambridge Reuter Dr and Brantford.

The Part-time Recreation Coordinator will be scheduled for 24 hours per week, Monday to Friday between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

Recreation & Activity Planning, Programming, & Facilitation

  • Create development programs that teach students sport and harvest the participation in sporting activity
  • Utilize research, evaluation, and current trends to develop and advise on student activities that offer a variety of programming opportunities for all levels of engagement
  • Create and facilitate a vast degree of programs to provide inclusivity
  • Use engagement strategies and best practices in student wellness to create programs that offer a variety of learning and personal growth opportunities for students
  • Provide active facilitation during student activities and events that engage and motivate students toward healthy lifestyle choices
  • Support recreational programming in the Fusion Innosoft software system
  • Market recreation programming through informal student discussions and student-driven foot traffic marketing
  • Coordinate vendor communication and ordering for recreation equipment, student swag, and student staff engagement items
  • Work with campus stakeholders to offer, facilitate, and organize the logistics of campus recreation programming and/or events at Conestoga satellite campuses

Student Staff Lead

  • Be an active contributor in the hiring, training, feedback, and evaluation of part-time student staff members
  • Provide guidance and leadership to student staff members facilitating student recreational programming, by encouraging strong customer service, inclusivity, sport knowledge, and healthy behaviour practices
  • Work with College stakeholders to aid in the supervision of Sport & Activity student staff members at Conestoga satellite campuses

Evaluation & Report Generation

  • Analyse and evaluate student programming through the use of surveys, informal and format student feedback and environmental scans
  • Develop analysis and reports for management to provide insight, assessment, and trends in student programming, reflecting on defined outcomes

Qualifications

  • Three-year Diploma/Degree in Recreation, Recreation Management, Sport Administration, Kinesiology, Fitness & Health Promotion, or related field
  • Two years of experience in a Recreation Programming/Facilitation capacity, preferably within a post-secondary education or municipal setting
  • Demonstrated ability advising, delegating, leading, motivating, supervising, and coaching staff
  • Basic Life Support Course is an asset
  • Ability to communicate, work, and program for diverse groups (as defined in the Human Rights Charter)
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, evaluate, and assess data to create outcome-based programs and opportunities for growth
  • Strong understanding of recreational activities, programs, and events that motivate student wellness and healthy living
  • Advanced computer skills, including familiarity with Recreation Management Software and other applicable software (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Ability to work evenings to supervise recreational offerings (as late as 10:00 p.m.)
  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel to multiple campus locations
