1.0 FTE Elementary Subject Specialist Teacher

The subject for this position will be 1.0 music.

Walnut Road Elementary is located in the Newton/Fleetwood area with approximately 850 students and a highly collaborative staff. There are modular and portable classrooms on site and a new prefabricated building with 12 classrooms. School Inquiry: Literacy with a specific focus on writing. This school has an active Learning Commons with MakerSpace/ADST/Robotics, MAC computers and iPad carts. There is a Lunchtime Inclusion Club "The Nest" and intermediate athletics. Walnut Road also has seamless Day Daycare for kindergarten students and before and after school care for grades 1-6.

Subject Specialist Teachers teach a classroom while the regular classroom teacher is taking their prep time.

As a Subject Specialist Teacher, in many cases you will be teaching one or two specific subjects for a variety of teachers in 30 to 45 minute blocks of time.

Subject Specialist Teachers implement BC Curriculum and assess students in one or two specific subject areas. A teacher may work with several different classes in a day, focusing on those specific subjects only. Examples are music, fine arts (visual arts, drama), STEM/design and technology, French, physical and health education, science. Subject for this position is music.

Successful candidates who are not certified with the Teacher Regulation Branch will be supported in the application for a letter of permission. Surrey Schools will provide training to orient non-certified educators to BC Curriculum and District Priority Practices.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's Degree

Other certification/experience working with young children in an organized environment (i.e. Early Childhood Educator)

Preferred Requirements

BC Teaching Certificate of Qualification

If you are a certified teacher, the full time annual salary range is $59,711 to $109,520, with placement on the range based on length of service, FTE and qualifications in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

Uncertified teachers, on a letter of permission, will be paid $59,711 per year pro-rated based on FTE.
