Assistant Site Superintendent

Reporting to the Field Manager the Assistant Site Superintendent plays a crucial role in supporting the successful execution of construction projects by assisting the Site Superintendent in managing all on site activities the role involves collaborating with various stakeholders supervising subcontractors and workers ensuring safety compliance and contributing to project timeline and quality goals the Assistant Site Superintendent will assist in maintaining a safe and productive work environment while promoting teamwork and effective communication

Responsibility

Project Support

  • Assist the Site Superintendent in planning organizing and coordinating daily construction activities.
  • Assist in the planning, scheduling, organizing, and control of construction projects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications, and budget.
  • Collaborate with the project team to understand project goals specifications and timeline requirements review project plans and blueprints to ensure accurate implementation.
  • Be responsible for on-site safety programs, WSIB poster, M.O.L. office phone number, and location of the nearest hospital.
  • Ensure the site office has proper first aid and eye wash station.

Supervision & Coordination:

  • Supervise and coordinate the work of subcontractors, workers, and vendors to ensure adherence to project plans and quality standards.
  • Monitor and enforce safety protocols, ensuring a safe work environment for all on-site personnel.
  • Assistance scheduling and allocating resources such as equipment, materials, and manpower as per project needs.
  • Organize pre-construction meetings with each trade to ensure they have all contract documents and are familiar with all the requirements.
  • Ensure all trades complete their scope of work to an acceptable standard.
  • Conduct safety and coordination meetings and prepare and distribute the meeting minutes.

Quality Control:

  • Conduct regular inspections to verify work quality, compliance with specifications, and adherence to industry standards.
  • Identifying address any deviations from project plans promptly, collaborating with relevant parties to resolve issues.

Progress Reporting:

  • Provide regular updates to the site Superintendent regarding project progress, challenges, and accomplishments.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and other relevant documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of job reports.

Communication:

  • Foster effective communication among project team members, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
  • Address any concerns or issues raised by workers, subcontractors, or others onsite in a timely and professional manner.

Problem Solving:

  • Assist in identifying and resolving project related challenges, proposing solutions to mitigate potential delays or obstacles.
  • Collaborate with the Site Superintendent and project team to troubleshoot and find innovative solutions.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Promote and enforce a culture of safety on site, adhering to all relevant safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and emergency response drills.

Skills And Attributes

  • Proven ability to diagnose, analyze, and develop solutions to complex issues.
  • Analytical and strong problem-solving ability.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and project plans.
  • Proficiency in using construction management software and tools.
  • Leadership qualities with a collaborative team-oriented approach.

Qualification Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent relevant technical or construction related education is a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of previous experience in ICI construction or related field, preferably in a supervisory role.
  • Strong understanding of construction process, techniques, and terminology.
  • In depth, understanding, knowledge and implementation of the Ontario occupational health and safety act as it relates to each project.
  • Gold Seal Certified an asset.
  • LEED Accredited an asset.
  • Computer literate, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Project.
  • Suretrak, Primavera P3 or P6.
  • E-Builder Project Management Software.
  • Procore and BIM software knowledge an asset.

Working Condition and Environment

  • Primary work location on project sites.
  • Travel to construction sites is anticipated.
  • Exposure to construction work site environment in all seasons.
