If you are looking to make a difference, and to share our vision “to be the most appealing, livable, and well-managed community in Canada”, then please apply.OverviewThis is combined operational and building maintenance work involved in the repair, maintenance and seasonal operation of stationary equipment in all aquatic facilities.Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain, repair and rebuild numerous mechanical and physical plant systems and various leisure play features.
  • Operate, program, trouble shoot and repair computerized building automation systems and all related electronic sensors and controllers at the various aquatic facilities.
  • Responsible for preventative maintenance, general maintenance, cleaning and daily/emergency repairs performed on the following: building and pool mechanical systems; circulation pumps; filtration, plumbing, heating, chemical injection and stereo systems; pool chemistry; pool sanitization.
  • Assist with the organization and implementation of special projects (i.e. system replacement/modification, minor capital projects).
  • Ensure smooth operation of all systems.
  • Responsible for facility start up, shut down and mechanical winterization.
  • Ensure the lifespan of equipment is extended as a result of proper scheduled maintenance.
  • Perform regular inspections to ensure that the various aquatic facilities are safe to use and to work in.
  • Inspect cleaning tasks performed by the Lifeguards and Building Service Workers (BSW).
  • Schedule and supervise external contractors and internal staff.
  • Order parts and materials, as required.
  • Ensure that requirements from the Workers Compensation Board (WCB), BC Provincial Health Act, Ministry of Health, Transportation Canada and the Boiler Inspectors Branch of BC are met.
  • Ensure assignments are resourced and monitored to meet quality and service requirements.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the operating principles and procedures of water heating, filtration and chlorination equipment.
  • Knowledge in the methods, practices and materials used in swimming pool repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and electrical systems applicable to the operation of the facility.
  • Knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment used in building maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow safety standards.
  • Skill in trades such as plumbing, carpentry, masonry, electrical, locksmith, glazing, welding, metal fabrication, general maintenance and painting.
  • Skill and ability to obtain price quotes for purchase of parts, materials and equipment.
  • Skill and ability to participate in writing janitorial contract specifications.
  • Skill and ability to operate, program, trouble shoot and repair computerized building automation systems and all related electronic sensors and controllers at the various aquatic facilities.
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance, general maintenance, cleaning, daily/emergency repairs, as required.
  • Ability to work both independently and interdependently while exercising sound judgement and initiative.
  • Ability to perform safety inspections and remove or repair any workplace hazards.
  • Ability to operate, maintain and repair equipment typically used in an aquatic facility.
  • Ability to coordinate and participate in maintenance programs.
  • Ability to inspect all janitorial tasks to ensure that quality and service standards are met.
  • Ability to participate in janitorial duties and other duties, as required.
  • Ability to create and process Purchase Orders.
  • Ability to handle all situations with courtesy and tact.
  • Ability to successfully clear a Police Information Check.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent supplemented by a Pool Operator’s Certificate and technical courses related to the work.
  • A minimum of one year experience in pool maintenance or repair experience.
  • Pool Operators Certificate (Level 1 and 2 required).
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia.

Additional Information:Employee Group: CUPE Local 718 Position Status: Auxiliary Duration of Appointment: N/A Salary Range: $40.07 - $47.31/hr Hours of Work: Auxiliary work may include daytime and evening shifts on both weekdays and weekends as scheduled or on-call.
