Organization Overview

The Mel Jr. & Marty Zajac Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, located in Vancouver, BC, whose mandate is to support children, seniors and those with special needs through innovative community projects focused on developing lifelong skills and independence. Our current major focus is Zajac Ranch for Children, a camp in Mission, BC, for children with chronic, life-threatening and/or debilitating conditions.

 

Located on the shores of Stave Lake in Mission, BC, just one hour east of Vancouver, Zajac Ranch for Children is situated on over 40 acres of pristine forested land. During the summer months, Zajac Ranch provides camps for children and young adults with chronic, life-threatening and/or debilitating conditions. In the off-season, Zajac Ranch welcomes school groups and private rentals. Revenue raised from site rentals goes to supporting Zajac Ranch for Children medical summer camps.

Opportunity:

We are seeking a General Manager to join our team at the Zajac Ranch for Children in Mission, BC. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the General Manager is a key member of the senior management team responsible for implementing and upholding our Mission and Vision, for reaching the financial objectives of the organization. The General Manager will perform a wide range of duties including strategic leadership and management; the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan; the hiring/evaluation/mentoring/termination, in conjunction with the Director of Operations & President, plus budget development and fiscal oversight; risk management; program evaluation; sales and customer service and volunteer supervision. Excellent communication skills are required, for cultivating relationships with donors, service providers, clients and the general community. The General Manager has the overall responsibility for ensuring the maintenance of Zajac Ranch buildings, equipment, hospitality services, and event offerings. The General Manager will work to create partnerships with local businesses and nonprofits, secure and attend local events to represent the brand, oversee daily operations of the site, Ranch staff, and build customer relationships.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of year-round Ranch and business operations.
  • In concert with senior management and leadership team, evaluate programs and offer insight.
  • Achieve financial targets as established by the leadership team.
  • Maintain fiscal responsibility for the annual budget, including administration and the procurement of goods and services.
  • Implement human resources practices to assist in recruiting and retain seasonal and year-round staff, as needed.
  • Manage property development and maintenance to ensure stewardship of current resources and identification of future needs.
  • Review, develop and implement policies related to staff and operations.
  • Develop and implement a Risk Management and Emergency Preparedness Strategy.
  • Develop and implement training resources and standard operating procedures (SOP) as needed.
  • Oversee the daily operation of camp when in session, paying careful attention to food services, facility management, programming, client satisfaction, and staffing.
  • Uphold all professional, safety and BC Camp Association (BCCA) standards.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the camping, special education and non-profit community.
  • Other duties as assigned by Zajac Foundation leadership team.


Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree from a recognized institution in management, business or special education or related field required.
  • Minimum 8 years of senior management and leadership experience including budgeting and people management.
  • Previous experience working in a camp and/or outdoor education environment.
  • Previous experience in hospitality management in a resort setting preferred.
  • Able to multitask and assume new duties as required.
  • Proven ability to motivate, direct and oversee staff and volunteers.
  • Proven record of excellent team management and leadership as well as proven ability to work alone and on your own initiative.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to drive your team forward to achieve, excel and exceed expectations.
  • Have a firm belief in the value of summer camp for children with special needs.
  • Have experience delivering top-notch customer service.
  • Understanding of and experience with building maintenance systems, including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, and fire protection an asset.
  • Understanding of maintaining logbooks, tool inventory, water treatment records, maintenance of pumps, HVAC an asset.
  • Relevant customer service experience and forthright approach to dealing with difficult situations in a customer service environment.
  • Must be personable with an outgoing character and exceptional work ethic.
  • Advance computer skills and data management experience.

 

To obtain success in this position, the incumbent must be able to multitask, assume new duties as required, be able to motivate, direct and oversee staff and volunteers, and be a definite leader capable of providing clear, concise and responsible decision making.

 

Please also note the below requirements:

 

  • Must have own transportation and possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Have computer skills and data management experience, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
  • Hold valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C or the ability to obtain.
  • Possess and maintain a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
