Overview

Garmin Canada is seeking a position as an entry level Hardware Engineering Technologist. As the Hardware Engineering Technologist, you will apply electronic theory and electrical testing procedures to create and execute product test plans. You will also build, test, troubleshoot, repair and modify developmental and production electronic circuits, equipment and systems.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist the product development team in the development of new circuits by performing electrical circuit prototyping, breadboard construction, and troubleshooting
  • Discuss assembly procedures and problems with design staff and clarify functional criteria of electronic units
  • Participate in project meetings to gather input relevant to product testing
  • Test operating units to identify defects, measure performance, determine need for adjustment, verify specified operation and compliance to applicable regulations and Quality Assurance (QA) guidelines
  • Analyze and interpret test data
  • Recommend changes in test methods to simplify or improve assembly and maintenance
  • Write technical reports, develop charts, graphs, and schematics to describe and illustrate a system's operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations from design specifications, and functional limitations
  • Check functionality of prototype product and equipment to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions
  • Maintain project files and notebooks in an organized manner
  • Maintain lab equipment and supplies needed for product development
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned


Education, Experience, And Skills Required:

  • Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology or Computer Engineering Technology from a technical/vocational institution.
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrated familiarity with digital and analog circuit design concepts
  • Experience working in a lab environment
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
  • Ability to adapt to changes in priorities and frequent task switching.


Additional Assets

  • Previous experience with RF test systems
  • PCB layout/CAD design experience
  • Knowledge of software languages (C, Python, Labview, Matlab, etc)
