The House of Commons Finance Services is currently establishing a pool of qualified candidates for the Financial Advisor position.

In this position, the incumbent is expected to provide advice and recommendations to clients on financial policies, rules, entitlements, travel services, and transactions. This person supervises the processing of financial transactions and claims and provides technical financial advice related to revenues, expenditures, assets, and liabilities, in compliance with financial policies, procedures, acts and regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles (GMP). This individual leads a team that proactively delivers consulting services to its clients. Consequently, strong leadership skills are essential in this role to motivate and develop team members, while fostering good working relationships with partners and stakeholders.

Education: 

  • University degree from a recognized institution with a specialization in accounting, finance, business administration, public administration or commerce OR an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience.

Experience: 

  • Experience applying accounting principles and practices, including financial policies and best practices; 
  • Experience in resolving complex financial problems in an operational environment;
  • Experience in providing financial advice and recommendations to clients or management;
  • Experience with supervising or leading teams in an operational environment.

Assets: 

  • Recognized accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CGA or CA), in-progress or completed; 
  • Experience using an Integrated Financial System such as Business World, PeopleSoft, Oracle or SAP;
  • Experience in building and maintaining trusted relationships with high-profile clients;
  • Knowledge of operational process review methods, accountability frameworks, and change management principles.
