The Opportunity

Position Summary: Reporting to the Director of the Mental Health and Addictions program, the Scientific Lead will provide leadership through the creation of a new innovative Health Learning System (LMS) that integrates scientific information, informatics, training and patient care. The Learning Health System will use data collected at the point of care to drive innovation and continuous improvement, with best practices seamlessly embedded in the delivery of care. The Learning Health System will produce research in routine treatment settings and implement evidence at the point of care. The Scientific Lead will provide leadership in the design, development, and administration of the of the Learning Health System. The Scientific Lead will develop partnerships between research, community and clinical operations, and work closely with all partners such as patients, families and community providers to improve patient outcomes, experience and system level change. The Scientific Lead will create a centre of clinical expertise and research development within the Learning Health System that will enhance Mental Health and Addiction services for Nova Scotian and Maritime children, youth and families.

Hours of Work

Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week). Flexible work hours required at times.

Your Qualifications

  • PhD required.
  • Current registration with relevant health discipline college/association, if applicable.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in health care leadership required.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ progressive experience building and leading research teams with diverse health system partner representation required.
  • Progressive leadership in Mental Health and Addictions required.
  • Experience and competency in community engagement, leadership, and research management required.
  • Ability to engage stakeholders in all aspects of the research process and effectively lead and manage LHS research teams and projects.
  • Competency in conducting research within the context of complex health systems using appropriate study designs and analytic methods to assess outcomes of interest to health systems stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to employ specific implementation science or quality improvement methods to study and promote systematic uptake of research findings and other effective clinical interventions into routine practice.
  • Ability to know how to use information systems to conduct LHS research and improve patient and health system outcomes required.
  • Experience in coaching, developing and leading high-performance teams with a strong track record of continuous improvement and measurable outcomes required.
  • The ability to work within and contribute to a scope of work practice that is national, provincial, regional and community-based.
  • Must be a skilled communicator with strong interpersonal and written skills.
  • Experience and training in cultural competence and safety.
  • Strong critical thinking, judgement and decision-making skills are required.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset.
