Sobeys is full of exciting opportunities, and we are always looking for bright new talent to join our team! We currently have a full-time opportunity for a Data Architect/Modeller. This role is based out of our office in Mississauga, ON

Here’s Where You’ll Be Focusing

As a Data Architect / Modeller with Sobeys you will:

  • Design and develop data architectures for ingesting data from source systems, ensuring efficient and scalable data pipelines.
  • Analyze source system data models and identify opportunities for standardization and optimization.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts/Business Data Analysts to understand data requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Work closely with Data Engineers to implement data extraction, transformation, and load (ETL) processes.
  • Develop and maintain data quality standards for source system data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Participate in enterprise data projects, identifying potential integration issues and proposing solutions aligned with data governance best practices.
  • Document data architecture components thoroughly for future reference and maintenance.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to engineers, and other team members. Share your expertise and knowledge to foster their professional growth and enhance their understanding of database design, SQL, query evaluation and performance tuning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders, to understand data requirements and translate them into actionable data architecture solutions. Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data architecture and management.
  • Champion data best practices among business and technical teams.
  • Champion the EDO goals and guiding principles
    • Build trust in data and how we use it.
    • Establish and embed collaborative ways of working to accelerate our data transformation.
    • Champion the safe and scalable use of data across the organization.
What You Have To Offer

What you have to offer:

  • 5+ years of Data Architect and modelling experience preferably in the CPG industry.
  • Strong experience in data architecture principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in data modeling techniques (Data Vault 2.0 is a plus point).
  • Experience in Cloud-based data management platforms and ETL solutions such as Azure ADLS, Snowflake, Databricks, Informatica or similar.
  • Understanding of data governance frameworks, data quality management, and data security practices.
  • Ability to collaborate with business teams to understand data impacts and define data standards.
  • Experience in Data Product Management methodologies is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
