We are searching for a Recreation Programmer to join our Parkstone team based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

About the Opportunity

  • Collaborates with the Recreation team to develop a plan for full-scope wellness programming lines;
  • Assists each resident in achieving their goals to enhance their overall wellness and assist with defining strategies for achieving those goals;
  • Evaluates programming to ensure that the programs are meeting the residents' needs and expectations along with upholding the established expectations;
  • Develops, analyzes, and reviews resident-directed individualized and community-wide programs;
  • Fosters partnerships with local businesses and community groups to facilitate program development;
  • Assists in the orientation for each new resident to the recreation department, services offered and activities/amenities available to them;

About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

  • Two-year post-secondary diploma in Recreation Therapy
  • Knowledge of techniques and equipment needed for a variety of recreation programs used in a therapeutic setting;
  • Knowledge of human behavior as related to the leisure needs of the resident population
  • You are an energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly and has experience in programming and planning for seniors in a recreational environment.
  • You have strong communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as strong computer skills.
  • Possession of a Class G Driver's License is an asset.
  • Proof of current, valid CPR and First Aid Certification, as well as a Safe Food Handler's Course, is required.
  • Displays a high level of initiative, effort and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently. Works with minimal supervision. Demonstrates responsible behavior and attention to detail;
  • You can work flexible hours and shifts (including some weekends and evenings).
