We are currently seeking an Intermediate Project Engineer to join our dynamic team at Solaris MCI. As an integral member of the team, you will have an opportunity to manage and coordinate multidiscipline engineering activities to ensure projects are executed in an efficient, cost effective, and timely manner. You will also have the opportunity to oversee resources and may handle multiple projects. Your pride in ensuring that technical accuracy is accomplished and that project objectives are met, will be a vital part of this diverse and interesting position.


Responsibilities:

  • Liaises between the project manager and the technical disciplines involved in the design of upstream/midstream natural gas, LNG, renewables, hydrogen and technology industries
  • Understands and complies with client specifications, as well as Provincial and Federal regulations and codes related to the design of natural gas, renewables, and LNG systems
  • Sets clear objectives to the design team, including achieving productivity and budget targets
  • Prepares estimates and budgets, manages piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and assists with equipment sizing and selection
  • Assesses procurement processes throughout the project to ensure goods meet specifications, are delivered on time
  • Coordinates tasks, work schedules, and project deliverables to ensure that project objectives are achieved
  • Forecasts final costs, identifies trends, and takes action to avoid cost overruns
  • Ensures design team meets and complies with client’s stated requirements, applicable codes and regulations, and accepted engineering practices and standards
  • Builds and maintains healthy vendor and sub-contractor relationships
  • Collaborates with vendors and subcontractors to interpret project specifications and contract criteria
  • Resolves difficult client and engineering problems by reviewing existing requirements, developing new approaches, or applying existing procedures
  • Liaises with different disciplines to resolve design problems, discuss project criteria, and facilitate smooth project coordination
  • Recommends improvements in design standards to reduce costs, improve work quality, and facilitate maintenance
  • Participates in internal and external review meetings (PHA/HAZOPs, design reviews, 3D model reviews)
  • Coordinates responses from the design team on technical questions from the client, vendor, or subcontractor
  • Reviews work of support staff to ensure technical accuracy and adequacy
  • Maintains HSE focus within the team to ensure HSE requirements are included in design and procurement
  • May be required to travel to the field as final inspection of all facilities
  • May be responsible for signing and stamping engineering drawings.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education with a degree in Engineering or Applied Science
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation or eligibility for P. Eng. Registration (EGBC is preferred)
  • 4+ years of work experience in a relevant industry. Natural Gas, Renewables, and LNG industry experience would be an asset
  • Previous work experience in an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management company and experience in work involving Provincial / Federal regulations, codes, and standards
  • Preference for centrifugal compression, gas turbine and LNG experience
  • Field or site experience is desirable.
  • Good problem-solving skills with the ability to make analytical decisions and draw conclusions from comparative conditions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team
  • Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to supervise a small group of professionals
  • Ability to coordinate small multidisciplinary teams and provide competent supervision
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong understanding and application of engineering codes and standards
  • Applicants without a post-secondary degree or P.Eng designation will be considered for a similar role, provided the applicant has 8+ years of relevant industry experience in packaged equipment fabrication management, field construction/turn-around management, or facility operations.

Salary is based on an average of 37.5 hours a week. The competitive salary will be based on skills and experience.

Estimated range is between $70,000-105,000+/annually depending on experience.
