Our client implemented SAP in 2020, using S/4 HANA Version 2019. The client needs to upgrade to the latest SAP S/4 HANA version, with that work occurring in 2025, as the current version v2019 is nearing the end of the standard 5-year SAP software maintenance lifecycle. This work will impact all the modules of SAP, integrations, interfaces, and workflows. It is a huge technical lift and will also involve rigorous testing. In addition, functional features will be explored to support continuous improvement and high-performance organizational goals. Preparation work needs to commence in 2024 to be ready for 2025. Phase I of the Project is assessing the scope (in 2024); Phase II is the Project execution (2025).
To this end, Phase 1 has identified the requirement of an 'Advanced Business Application Programming (ABAP) language Subject Matter Expert (SME)' to assist in the upgrade and related tasks. It has been determined that this will be a contracted position.

Key Responsibilities:
- SAP Version Upgrade Support:
- Support the SAP version upgrade by providing technical expertise on upgrades and enhancements.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with the upgrade to ensure a smooth transition.
- Ensure that all customizations are compatible and optimized for the new SAP version. Ticket Review and Resolution:
- Analyze, review, and resolve tickets, including SAP Payroll (Canadian Payroll) tickets ensuring high-quality and timely solutions in preparation for the SAP upgrade.
- Conduct root cause analysis of recurring issues and propose permanent solutions.
- Collaborate with functional teams to align business needs with customizations.
- Mentor and train internal team members, helping them enhance their ABAP and overall SAP skills, in preparation for the SAP upgrade.
- Develop and maintain documentation, best practices, and guidelines for ABAP development.
- Lead knowledge-sharing sessions to foster a culture of continuous learning within the team.
- Quality Assurance and Code Review:
- Perform code reviews to ensure compliance with SAP best practices and coding standards.
- Optimize ABAP code for performance, maintainability, and scalability.
- Provide expert recommendations for improving system performance and efficiency through ABAP enhancements.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including SAP functional consultants, project managers, and business stakeholders.
- Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Support project planning and execution by providing accurate time estimates and regular status updates.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Certification: SAP ABAP Certification is required.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in ABAP development, with significant experience in SAP version upgrades.
- SAP Payroll (Canadian Payroll).
- Proven experience in reviewing and resolving complex ABAP issues in a production environment.
- Strong understanding of SAP modules and their integration with ABAP.
- Proficient in SAP ABAP programming, including reports, forms, enhancements, interfaces, and conversions.
- Experience with Object-Oriented ABAP, SAP HANA, and SAP Fiori is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with SAP Solution Manager and transport management.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong mentoring and coaching abilities.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
Candidates shall provide documentation for the following mandatory submission requirement:
- Advanced Business Application Programming (ABAP) Certification
Candidates should provide the following:
- Resume indicating education, skills and experience relevant to the deliverables;
- Provide a description of experience showing the minimum of ten (10) years of experience in ABAP development, with significant experience in SAP version upgrades, SAP Payroll as described in the Deliverables.
- Provide three (3) project examples where proponent shows proven experience in reviewing and resolving complex ABAP issues in a production environment.
- Describe proponent’s strong understanding of SAP modules and their integration with ABAP.
