ISL’s Calgary Transportation Team proudly tackles some of the most interesting projects in Western Canada. What you can expect in working with us is:

  • Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors: Hwy 1A/22 Cochrane Interchange; SW and West Calgary Ring Road; Hwy 3 corridor; Hwy 2/338 Ave Interchange; Hwy 16 Multi-Laning Study; Hwy 19 Twinning; Bezanson Roundabout  
  • Calgary: Macleod Trail / 162 Interchange (first DDI in Canada), Crowchild Trail study and Short-Term Improvements, 37 Street SW Mainstreet Design and Construction, 144 Avenue NW Extension; 17 Avenue SE Victoria Park / Stampede LRT Station.
  • Airdrie: Highway 2 and 40 Ave Interchange, multiple planning and traffic studies, roadworks rehabilitation and pedestrian bridges.
  • Canmore: Teepee Town Improvements, Three Sisters Pathway and pathway rehabilitation projects, 




A Little About You


Your expertise in Transportation Engineering is well-established. You have a history of being in lead or key contributor roles on numerous multimillion-dollar engineering projects or several concurrent smaller-scale endeavors. Your collaborative spirit allows you to effectively work with others on interdisciplinary engineering initiatives. You possess comprehensive experience with design requirements across all phases of a project, and you are adaptable to varying client standards and expectations. You lead by setting a positive example and actively contribute to your team's success. You are enthusiastic about the future, embracing the limitless opportunities that innovation and AI bring to the field.


Your enthusiasm and passion for your work are palpable—you excel at sharing knowledge and training your peers. With an inquisitive mind, you approach problems from a first-principles perspective. You are adept at documenting designs and assisting with reporting. Working alongside multiple other project leaders, you are committed to delivering high-quality results.

  • The most fulfilling transportation project you worked on and how it aligns with this posting's requirements. Explain why it was both challenging and rewarding, showcasing your passion.


Your resume should show us:

  • A Degree related to Civil Engineering, or a Diploma related to Civil Engineering Technology or Engineering Design and Drafting Technology .
  • Registration (or eligibility for registration) with ASET (C.E.T., or P.Tech.(Eng.)), or APEGA (P.Eng., or P.L.Eng.).
  • Ideally over 10 years of progressive experience in transportation mobility drafting, 3D modeling and geometric design with Autodesk Civil 3D and similar software tools.
  • A keen interest in staying up to date with various software’s and transportation mobility infrastructure best practices throughout all project phases.
  • Your journey from graduate to lead in Transportation Projects. 
  • Comfort in leading, influencing and upholding design standards to ensure quality of work on projects.


Bonus points for:

  • Demonstrated participation in industry lead innovation
  • Hands on knowledge of Federal, Provincial and Municipal, technical standards.

Our Technical Lead, Transportation Engineering will enjoy a varied workload focusing on the following three areas:


Projects

  • Preparing high quality design and drafting deliverables while meeting schedule milestones and budgets
  • Being the Mobility Design Professional of Record for your work and the work of others.
  • Being the technical expert by providing senior technical review on deliverables to ensure appropriate engineering judgement, solutions, technical feasibility, and constructability
  • Participating in design meetings and provide continual input to optimize design and minimize rework
  • Leading Transportation design projects as required
  • Being the design liaison for projects through the proposal, design, and construction phases
  • Providing technical input on proposals as required


People

  • Providing senior technical review and guidance on Transportation projects
  • Training, mentoring, and guiding the technical development of Transportation design technical staff
  • Providing effective leadership by inspiring, engaging, and motivating Transportation design technical staff towards continued growth and greater creativity
  • Encouraging and participate in team building of the Transportation group and foster the ISL values and culture
  • Supporting social activities and community initiatives
  • Providing insight, support, and feedback to the Managers on staff related issues
  • Leading by example


Discipline

  • Managing design and drafting processes and procedures for the Transportation discipline
  • Involvement in Continuous Improvement efforts for the Transportation discipline and coordinate these efforts with other ISL offices and disciplines as appropriate 
  • Maintaining professional growth and development through training, conferences, seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest technology and trends
  • Collaborating with other ISL offices and disciplines on issues including technical processes, procedures, standards, quality management, and Continuous Improvement Initiatives
