Job Summary

The City of Mississauga is looking to hire a co-op student to assist the Transportation Asset Management Team in developing and improving asset management practices for our transportation assets. The Transportation Asset Management section leads the inventory and assessment programs for road pavement, bridges, culverts, retaining walls and noise walls. These programs feed the City’s asset management plans and are used to determine our capital budgets.

The City is seeking a motivated individual with initiative and a keen interest in asset management who is willing to put forward ideas and make meaningful contributions to the City’s Asset Management Programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under The Direction Of The Manager Of Transportation Asset Management And Under The Functional Guidance Of The Transportation Infrastructure Coordinator(s), The Successful Candidate Will Perform The Following

  • Support with administering and tracking Permission to Enter notices for various active noise wall construction projects throughout Mississauga;
  • Review and validate attributes and geospatial data for various road related infrastructure. This may include on-site work and acquisition of asset images;
  • Assist with service requests and investigations related to bridges, culverts, retaining walls, noise walls, and guide rails;
  • Assist with the review and validation of new LiDAR data for roadside appurtenances such as: bollards, delineators, guide-rails, hand-rails, safety gates, waste receptacles, knee walls, noise walls, retaining walls and entrance features;
  • Complete other assigned tasks as required;

Duties and responsibilities may vary according to the student’s academic background and experience

Skills And Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a post secondary degree program, in civil or transportation engineering, or a related discipline;
  • Demonstrate knowledge in the development of asset management plans for guide-rails, pavement, bridge, culvert and retaining wall structures;
  • Experience with computer applications such as ESRi GIS, INFOR, BridgeTMS, RPMS, Stamson Noise Modeling, MS Office, and Outlook would be an asset;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skill are essential;
  • Strong ability to work with financial information;
  • Must have a valid Class G drivers licence.

Hourly Rate/Salary: 19.22 - 22.84

Hours of Work: 35
