POSITION FUNCTION

Coordinate and participate in the operation of the print shop and mailroom.

KEY DUTIES

Operate copier and bindery equipment; perform minor maintenance such as cleaning, sharpening, inking, adjusting and replacing parts; operate a variety of print shop equipment such as fax, cutter, drill press, postage meter and paper folder; make recommendations on the purchase of new equipment; arrange for equipment servicing by contacting suppliers.

Prioritize printing orders, often in accordance with legislated timelines; make recommendations to expedite printing orders such as, cost effective alternatives; determine material requirements and advise users on printing and binding methods; provide estimate of time and cost of orders; enter data into spreadsheets for appropriate billing by another Department; coordinate special printing projects and orders with outside suppliers and agencies. Review submitted orders and coordinate administrative systems to ensure efficient workflow.

Coordinate, assign and review and participate in the work of approximately 2 staff performing print shop functions; ensure schedules, procedures and established performance and safety standards are met; provide employee training and input to performance appraisals.

Maintain stock levels by contacting suppliers for open order items and requisition special stock purchases; conduct annual inventory count; monitor postage meter use and arrange for meter refill.

Perform related duties where qualified.

INDEPENDENCE

Work is generated by requests for service and reviewed upon completion.

Issues such as staff levels, new equipment or major expenditures are referred to supervisor.

Key Skills And Abilities

Organize and prioritize the work of a unit.

Operate various print shop and mailroom equipment.

Type 40 wpm; basic level operation of current City of Victoria computer programs.

Keep accurate records.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Deal effectively with the public and outside agencies.

Qualifications

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:

High school graduation.

Experience

2 years of related experience.

or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other
