CPP Investments is committed to operational excellence and continuous innovation in supporting our global investment strategy. Our Investment Operations team plays a critical role in ensuring seamless, efficient, and scalable transaction processes across public markets. We are looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking leader to join us as the Managing Director, Public Markets Middle Office.
In this role, you will provide strategic leadership to a high-performing team, with a focus on optimizing processes, driving operational efficiency, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. Reporting to the Managing Director, Head of Investment Operations, you will enhance the team’s contribution to the organization by leveraging technology and implementing strategic solutions to support the evolving needs of our global operations.
You will have the opportunity to further elevate the team's capabilities by identifying opportunities for process optimization and introducing innovations that strengthen middle office operations and align with the broader organizational goals.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Lead and inspire a high-performing team, focusing on optimizing processes, enhancing operational performance, and driving continuous improvement across public markets operations.
- Act as a strategic leader, aligning middle office functions with broader enterprise strategies to deliver high-impact results that drive organizational success.
- Oversee the full trade lifecycle, investment services, and transaction processing, ensuring that processes remain agile and continuously evolve in line with the organization’s growth.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration by breaking down silos between departments, facilitating knowledge sharing, and building partnerships that drive operational performance.
- Foster a culture of innovation, working with investment departments to refine workflows and automate key functions, enabling investors to focus on high-value decision-making.
- Collaborate closely with global trading teams to ensure comprehensive and efficient operational support, while continuously exploring new technologies and methodologies to enhance flexibility and scalability.
- Manage and mitigate operational risks by reviewing and refining existing processes, adopting technology-driven solutions that support long-term growth and operational excellence.
- Lead large-scale, complex projects that drive multi-year value to the organization, ensuring alignment with broader strategic goals.
- Strengthen partnerships with investment and technology teams, ensuring that middle office functions are aligned with broader strategic goals and positioned for future success.
- Prioritize high-impact tasks and manage resources effectively to ensure operational excellence and support enterprise goals.
- Drive the ongoing development of a high-performing team by cultivating a culture of innovation, adaptability, and continuous learning, and by fostering professional growth.

The ideal candidate will have:
- A strategic mindset and proven ability to build and shape a long-term approach to group success while taking an enterprise level view.
- Demonstrated ability to drive organizational changes to optimize the global operational support needs and manage performance of Operations teams, setting clear priorities and expectations as well as providing direction and support.
- A track record of optimizing the value delivered by their group or department through the thoughtful allocation of resources to high priority areas.
- A history of attracting top-tier talent to build a diverse team of leaders.
- Experience in acting as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing strategic counsel on high-impact, complex issues.
- The ability to develop and refine targeted metrics/KPIs that track key success measures across both internal processes and external relationships with key vendors
- Is recognized as an innovative and collaborative thought leader who drives productive change that delivers tangible business value.
- The ability to communicate, influence and engage with peers, senior leadership, and business partners.
- Demonstrated experience building, overseeing, leading, coaching and developing high performing teams (e.g. recruiting, training, mentoring, etc.)
- Superior interpersonal skills; clear and proven communication skills (oral and written) as well as exceptional presentation skills
- Committed to inclusion and diversity and leadership in enterprise-wide initiatives
Specific experience, qualifications and areas of expertise should include:
- 10+ years of experience in public markets operations, with expertise in managing multi-asset classes (e.g., equities, fixed income, derivatives, FX) across global markets.
- Experience at a global pension fund or asset manager is an asset, but not a strict requirement.
- Proven ability to enhance operational efficiency through technology-driven solutions while maintaining control in high-volume environments.
- Expertise in trade lifecycle management, risk mitigation, and post-trade processes, with a focus on refining and scaling operations.
- Advanced leadership competencies, including enterprise focus and strategic thinking, with a demonstrated ability to align operational initiatives with organizational goals.
- Experience in managing relationships with key vendors and internal stakeholders to optimize service delivery and enhance operational resilience.
- Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze and utilize large sets of data for performance and decision-making, enhancing transparency and operational effectiveness.
- Commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, ensuring the team remains at the forefront of operational advancements.
- A degree in business, economics, or a related field is required. Professional designations such as CFA or CPA are highly valued.
