Baker Tilly RSG LLP is currently looking for a full-time, permanent Senior Accountant to join our Edmonton team.

The Senior Accountant is responsible for providing accounting, tax, advisory, and consulting services to Baker Tilly RSG clients, while also promoting the brand and services of Baker Tilly RSG. They are a front line for responding to inquiries, resolving issues, and providing support and guidance to clients on various tax, and year end compliance matters as well as preparing compilation, review, and audit engagements and corporation and personal income tax returns of varying complexities. This role will also support and guide junior staff.

The Senior Accounting Technician will be required to work in an office environment with the option for some remote flexibility. The incumbent may be required to travel occasionally for training and meetings.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Plan and execute compilation, review and audit engagements including preparation of financial statements and applicable tax filings
  • Prepare personal income tax returns and related schedules
  • Establish and maintain client relationships while developing skills for the attraction of new clients
  • Respond to client inquiries and concerns
  • Analyze client circumstances and provide useful insight and support for financial decision making or planning, including identifying opportunities for value-added services to clients
  • Review of bookkeeping prepared internally for clients
  • Manage time, budgets, work in progress and billings
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain or improve efficient internal processes
  • Engage in continuous professional development, as required for CPA designation as well as to maintain appropriate level of knowledge to perform role
  • Train and mentor junior accounting staff, including mentorship for CPA program


A successful candidate will have:

  • CPA (or equivalent) designation required
  • 2+ years of public practice experience required
  • Strong understanding of accounting and tax fundamentals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information clearly and concisely
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think creatively to resolve issues
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to perform more than one task concurrently
  • Proficient in computer applications such as CaseWare, Microsoft 365, TaxPrep, Xero, QBO, and other relevant software
