Position Overview
The Globe and Mail is looking for an Audience Growth Editor to help us reach and grow new audiences by showcasing, optimizing and shaping Globe journalism on social media, newsletters, and other platforms.
This position will focus on promoting and shaping Globe journalism – including breaking news, features, explainers and special projects – for readers who find our content through a variety of off-platform channels, including Apple News. This might also include on-camera and newsletter work. We're looking for someone who's not afraid to try out new ideas for audience growth and strategy, whether that's telling stories in new ways, reformatting existing content or discovering new platforms.

We Offer

Responsibilities
- Optimize Globe journalism by anticipating, planning and employing SEO best practices for various editorial teams.
- Collaborate across departments to create and execute audience growth strategies for stories, with a focus on reach, traffic and platforms to ensure the journalism is seen by as many people as possible.
- Conceive of and write explainers for stories of interest to readers and potential readers, taking into account search interest, explanatory journalism and service elements.
- Work closely with platforms like Apple News, Google Showcase and LinkedIn to ensure maximum visibility of content across the online landscape, utilizing the platforms’ individual tools.
- Support our social media presence (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Snapchat, Reddit) by creating and promoting content, and monitoring performance metrics to enhance strategies.
- Ideate around enhancing audience engagement, using methods like reader callouts and surveys, comment round-ups, quizzes and community engagement.
- Experiment with new forms of content and promotion and monitor their success with Globe readership.
- Work with the analytics team to monitor, analyze and interpret audience data and utilize those learnings in future projects.
- Solid news judgement and a flair for writing engaging, SEO-optimized headlines and content.
- Thriving in an environment of creativity and experimentation.
- Excited about new ideas and using data to test, learn and iterate. The status quo doesn’t appeal to you.
- Able to identify existing and potential audience for The Globe's journalism, iterating on what exists and developing new ideas based on what readers are looking for.
- Able to translate metrics into smart audience decisions and work across the newsroom and broader organization with different levels of staff to develop and support best practices on search, social, story presentation and headlines.
- Curious and constantly thinking about new ways to ensure stories reach readers.
- Independent thinking and teamwork, with an ability to shift between the two, will be integral.
- Experience building and growing an audience, including knowledge of audience data.
- Experience working with Google’s search algorithm and proficiency on off-platform sites will be an asset.
