The Accounting Analyst is part of the Real Estate Investment Operations group within the Investment Operations Department.
This is a 12 month contract position where you will be responsible for investment operation activities for a set group of Real Estate investments. This will require cross functional partnerships, understanding the full asset life cycle and being comfortable taking on processes end to end.
This position requires an individual who’s highly motivated with a strong analytical and accounting background.
Role-Specific Accountabilities:
- Prepare daily/monthly/quarterly accounting entries, reconciliations, and reports.
- Support manager in the onboarding of new transactions including review of partnership agreements, structure changes including debt refinancing on existing investments, and dispositions.
- Management of the central inbox and the recording day to day transactions. Includes providing timely engagement with colleagues/external parties; and ensures requests are fulfilled in order of urgency and importance.
- Attend to the maintenance of existing investments by ensuring capital calls, distributions and commitment updates are appropriately reviewed, approved, and processed in the respective investment systems.
- Monitor cashflows and P&L activity to ensure investments returns are not impacted.
- Calculate economic carrying value and understand impact on returns. Investigate any discrepancies and determine appropriate course of action in a timely manner.
- Assist manager in supporting the investment department and responding to enquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Work alongside our investment partners to ensure appropriate reporting and support are provided on a timely basis.
- Support cross functional work with other team members and departments to ensure we remain aligned with our vision, goals and values.
- Contribute to the preparation of documentation to support reviews conducted and to substantiate and demonstrate that adequate processes and controls have met regulatory requirements.
- Assist Manager to develop and enhance internal controls; monitor current procedures, reconciliations, and reasonability checks; streamline, automate, and enhance existing processes.
- Support a culture of continuous improvement and innovation mindset around how CPP Investments manages its investment operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
As the qualified candidate you possess:
- University degree in business or other relevant discipline
- Pursuing a professional accounting designation such as CPA
- 2-3 years of experience in a related role within the financial services and/or real estate investment industry
- Experience with Yardi, Simcorp, or other accounting software is considered an asset
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to independently identify issues and determine course of action
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, with ability to foster effective working relationships internally across the organization and externally
- Highly organized with the ability to prioritize and multi-task whilst ensuring reporting timelines are met
- Proven attention to accuracy and detail
- Intellectually curious, self-motivated, flexible, and adaptable in a high performance and deadline-oriented culture
- Demonstrated good judgment and professionalism
- Ability to readily adapt to a rapidly changing environment
- A continuous learning mindset with a desire to learn about CPP Investments business and recommend innovative solutions to business problems
