We are actively seeking experienced, driven, and talented professionals to play a vital role in advancing our automation-focused test strategies for system-level validation of innovative optical networking solutions. Our solutions are based on innovative technologies aimed at meeting the performance, scalability, reliability, and feature requirements of our diverse global customer base, including Telecom service providers and content providers. This is a hybrid role (3 DAW onsite) at our Ottawa office. Candidates must be able to work onsite 3 days per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate System requirements & Functional specifications and develop comprehensive security and data communication solution test plans to validate customer use-cases and product capabilities.
  • Actively develop automation scripts using Automation Framework to validate customer use case scenarios and workflows, continue to evolve the capabilities of already developed automation scripts, and drive the evolution/improvement of the Automation framework.
  • Ability to plan, execute, and complete Security report assessment using one or more of the following: vulnerability scanners, fuzz testers, or penetration testing tools
  • Ability to understand, plan and execute network level qualification activities using one or more of the following: L2/L3 Routers and switches, IPv4/IPv6, IP Management for IPv4/IPv6, subnetting, or industry standard topologies.
  • Execute system level tests for network elements using fully automated, semi-automated and manual test methods, providing coverage across all North Bound user interfaces such as CLI, Netconf, Rest, gRPC etc. as well as Network Management Systems.
  • Analyze test results, log defect reports, reproduction and debugging of issues, work with designers to troubleshoot, and retest defect resolution.
  • Conduct and participate in peer reviews for Test plans documents and Automation Scripts.
  • Plan and build test lab environments for solution-level test execution.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior team members and conduct knowledge sharing sessions on moderate to complex topics.

Required Skills

  • Strong customer focus and a firm commitment to product excellence and quality.
  • Ability to understand customers’ network and security needs, expectations, and perspectives, particularly in relation to the Optical Network Designs of Telecom Service Providers and Global Content Provider Networks
  • Strong familiarity with Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes and source control technologies.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: Network Security principles and practice, Vulnerability & Threat Analysis, Data Communication Network protocols and operations as well as Operating System Management.
  • Excellent understanding and experience with security concepts such as: AAA (Authentication, Authorization and Accounting) Security Framework, Encryption Key Models, Secure Logging.
  • Solid working knowledge and application of common penetration testing methodologies and tools.
  • Experience with Qualys VA, Tenable, Wireshark, NMAP, Metasploit, or Synopsys Defensics is considered an asset.
  • Excellent understanding of and experience with networking principles, standards and technology including different layers in OSI Model, TCP/IP, WANs, V/LANs, common protocols including HTTP/S, S/FTP, SSL/TLS/SSH, DNS, OSPF, BGP.
  • Networking Experience using L2/L3 devices such as Cisco iOS and Juniper OS would be an asset
  • High proficiency in Test Automation of network devices with the ability to write effective automation scripts using Python, automation frameworks, git-based source code control systems, Jenkins, and containerized virtual test environments. Experience with model-based Network management protocols (open-config) and interfaces (gRPC, Netconf, Rest, SNMP, CLI)
  • Experience in test effort estimation, test case planning, and test lab resource planning based on product requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to help facilitate root cause analysis of issues
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate in a global multisite team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Educational And Experience Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Optical Communications.
  • A minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience in system testing within the Security and Networking domain
  • One or more of the following Certifications or equivalent would be an asset:
    • Cisco CCNA or CCNP
    • Offensive Security Certified Professional/ Certified Expert (OSCP/OSCE)
    • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
    • CompTIA Security + or PenTest+
    • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
Compensation And Benefits

The annual pay range for this position in Ottawa goes from $81, 800 - $130, 600 CAD.

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
