Our story starts in 1911, manufacturing cables to support the distribution of power generated from Niagara Falls, Nexans has proudly contributed to Canada's growth. We have been involved in many of Canada's most ambitious projects; from dams, bridges, energy transmission and distribution to railroads and transportation. We are a vertically integrated manufacturer and our products are made at facilities located in Quebec, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.

This position will report to the Project Engineering and Digital Manager and will support the Industry 4.0 Digitalization project by developing and improving technical systems and machine controls, maintaining old systems and improving current systems to meet today's standards and future innovations. The successful candidate should have a growth mindset and the ability to embrace a culture of continous learning.

How You Make An Impact

  • Design new Human Machine Interfaces and Interactive Displays for a manufacturing environment
  • Develop new methods of machine control to increase production uptime and reduce carbon footprint
  • Continuous improvement of networks, network security, systems equipment, and production traceability
  • Work with different departments to develop and maintain Industry 4.0 and digitalization projects
  • Ability to work cross functionally with a number of teams including cyber security
  • Ensure electrical schematics and programs are up to date and follow a standardized structure
  • Use electrical/control systems and PLC programs to troubleshoot process issues and make modifications as required
  • Improve and maintain old and new machine control systems
  • Develop database and reporting functions for process control analysis and for production operational efficiency
  • Maintain secure network infrastructure and evaluate systems for improvements in security
  • Support production, engineering, and maintenance departments with technical systems
  • Keep departments informed of modifications and improvements through training and documentation
  • Assist with machine safety improvements and risk analysis procedures
  • Assist production and maintenance personnel when required
  • Create documentation for machine and systems troubleshooting
  • Identify and develop concepts for cost reduction through continuous improvement process
  • Ensure all health and safety regulations are enforced and complied with and that precautions are taken in order to prevent potential hazards.
  • Keep abreast of technological developments that would improve machinery, systems, networks and/or device communication protocols


What You Bring To The Role

  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills are a must
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Allen-Bradley and AVEVA System Platform
  • Knowledge of SQL Server and Autocad Electrical
  • Good information systems and database skills
  • Ability to learn equipment, processes, products and standards
  • Needs to be hands-on
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and effectively handle several projects simultaneously
  • University degree along with 5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Industrial Electrician background a benefit
