RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position Summary

The Brain Metabolism lab is looking for candidates with a background in Psychology, Biomedical Science and/or Neuroscience to fill a Research Assistant position. The Research Assistant will report to Prof. Dana Small, Professor in the Department of Medicine and Neurology & Neurosurgery and Chairholder of the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Metabolism and the Brain.

The Research Assistant will be responsible for subject recruitment, data collection, stimulus preparation and staff coordination. In addition, they will help to ensure adherence to study regulatory and reporting requirements. In this position, the candidate will also provide administrative support to Dr. Small and liaise with administrative assistants from participating institutions as needed.

General Duties

  • Recruit and screens potential study participants and perform the intake assessments,
  • Create and manage all documents and records related to the studies,
  • Be the point of reference for study participants by answering their questions and keeping them informed about the study’s progress,
  • Manage the inventory of equipment and supplies related to the specific study and helps to order when necessary,
  • Attend meetings and seminars in order to actively promote and participate in the studies,
  • Collect data and information from participants and collect them into electronic systems,
  • Create reports on each study, including notes on protocols, workload, data collection, etc…,
  • Creating stimuli, such as test meals and flavor stimuli for sensory testing, which requires basic wet-lab skills that can be learned on-the-job, but prior knowledge is considered an asset.
  • Provide administrative support and perform administrative tasks as requested.

Education / Experience

Education: Master's Degree

Field of Study: Psychology, Biomedical Science, Neuroscience

Work Experience: At least 1 year of experience working in a research environment or clinical setting.

  • Verbal communication skills in English and in French,
  • Superior organizational and time management skills,
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision and also as part of a team,
  • Demonstrates good listening, good interpersonal and communication skills,
  • Demonstrates attention to details,
  • Takes initiative and is resourceful,
  • Ability to multitask.

Additional information

Status: Temporary, full time

Pay Scale: 48,503.00 - $90,090.00 Commensurate with education and experience

Work Shift: Variable schedule

Work Site: Glen site, The Neuro (INM), Montreal General Hospital
