Position Purpose
The Manager, Lines is responsible for providing leadership, direction and support for a team of field supervisors, line staff, and clerical staff that efficiently constructs, maintains and operates the electrical distribution system.This position plans, manages and ensures that all Lines Department activities are executed in a timely manner while ensuring the health and safety of workers and the general public are maintained.

Position Purpose
The Manager, Lines is responsible for providing leadership, direction and support for a team of field supervisors, line staff, and clerical staff that efficiently constructs, maintains and operates the electrical distribution system.This position plans, manages and ensures that all Lines Department activities are executed in a timely manner while ensuring the health and safety of workers and the general public are maintained.
Responsibilities
- Provides leadership and guidance to the Construction and Maintenance teams to ensure safety, service, reliability, cost and training objectives are met
- Assumes responsibility for ensuring all relevant distribution system preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance activities are completed and documented in a timely and safe manner
- Researches and purchases various types of equipment and material
- Ensures the timely completion of the capital construction program
- Works in conjunction with the Engineering Design groups to evaluate plan specifications, plan procedures, timelines and labour requirements for construction projects
- Resolves technical issues raised during planning, design and construction stages
- Liaises with construction contractors to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of these business relationships in order to achieve timely and well-coordinated project planning and execution
- Oversees work completed by contractors
- Identifies staff training needs in conjunction with the Technical Trades Coordinator and the Training Department
- Ensures adherence to and effective administration of collective agreement
- Establishes a high performance culture to ensure high levels of productivity, accountability, quality and customer service
- Reviews documents and ensures compliance with policies and procedures as well as legislative requirements
- Ensures compliance with all Federal and Provincial legislation and Health and Safety standards and incorporates the spirit and intent of all regulatory and legal standards in all operations and communications
- Provides overall people leadership and direction through coaching, development, performance management and resource planning
- Provides input to annual business plans and budgets and manages resources accordingly
- Manages department projects and key initiatives to ensure quality and timely completion within budget
- Researches, recommends and implements new or enhanced policies, procedures and processes to improve operational effectiveness
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education
- Certified Journeyperson/Tradesperson or Bachelor’s degree or College diploma related to Electrical Engineering or recognized equivalent
- Registered member of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) would be an asset
- Must hold and maintain a valid class G driver’s license
- Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems, working knowledge of work order, planning and scheduling and geographic information systems
- Advanced knowledge of distribution construction activities, operations of the distribution system, overhead and underground construction practices
- Knowledge of the energy and utility industries, including a solid understanding of the regulatory environment
- Knowledge of the Standards Manuals, E&USA Rule Book and Safe Practice Guides and the Occupational Health and Safety Act as they pertain to the work
- Proficiency with MS Office applications
- 7-10 years experience including at least 5 years of supervisory experience in the electrical distribution industry
- Experience in a unionized utility environment an asset
- Strong ability to lead change and engage, develop and motivate teams
- Enhanced conflict resolution skills and the ability to handle difficult situations
- Strong planning skills, with the ability to assess the impact of decisions
- Excellent written and presentation skills, with the ability to organize and convey information in a compelling way
- Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple projects and initiatives within established timelines
- Strong conflict negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and resolve difficult situations
