PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As an Intern in CPKC’s engineering group, you will be supporting the work within the Track Evaluation Car department. You will gain exposure to various engineering field experiences and learn various aspects of the railway business. You will be part of an engineering team that operates and monitors the track recording devices and other instruments during assigned periods, while the Track Evaluation cars are in operation across the country, to ensure established quality control procedures are followed. Ideally the Candidate would be seeking an 8 month term starting in January 2025.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Primary emphasis on quality assurance and controls
  • Ensure through monitoring and verification that accepted organization standards are implemented
  • Use computerized systems and interfaces; data transport preparation and archiving
  • Extensive use of information technologies in all aspects of the work (computer programming not required)
  • Perform preventive maintenance and running repairs of all Track Evaluation car electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and optical equipment. Inspect and maintain all mechanical components of the Track Evaluation cars during testing operations
  • Elaboration and implementation of preventive maintenance programs for all aspects to the mechanical systems
  • Recommend procedures for various mechanical assemblies for current and developmental systems
  • Perform maintenance and data processing functions on board the cars

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Currently enrolled in Bachelors of Engineering degree within Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering discipline
  • Strong problem solving skills and decision making skills
  • Strong data analysis experience required
  • Must be proficient with MS Office, experience with SAP would be an asset
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Strong leadership and technical skills
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Extensive traveling (100%) is required for this position; Full expenses are covered including flights, meals, hotels and rental cars
  • Canadian or US Citizen and able to travel/work in both Canada and the US
