Ballard’s Supply Chain Management (SCM) Team has an immediate opening for a Senior Buyer. The successful candidate will work closely with the Warehouse & Logistics, Manufacturing, Planning, Quality, and Product Development Teams to manage a portfolio of commodities to ensure the demands of the organization are met. This role will be the key Ballard interface in the commercial management of strategic supplier relationships. This position will be located at our Burnaby facility.

Responsibilities

As a senior member of the SCM Team, this individual will be responsible for:

  • Acting as the key liaison for a number of strategic supplier partnerships and providing guidance to the broader Ballard team with respect to their commodity and technology roadmaps
  • Managing a portfolio of materials and suppliers to ensure that both Production and Program objectives are met – as driven by ERP and DDMRP signals
  • Balancing incoming material supply to ensure that production demands are met while also minimizing on hand inventory
  • Negotiating supply agreements to secure the lowest total cost of ownership for Ballard’s commercial products, ensuring the best achievable material pricing, payment/delivery terms and warranty terms
  • Assist with negotiating and finalizing capital equipment purchases and service level agreement contracts
  • Actively participating in our cross functional supplier selection process, including participation in supplier audits as well as ongoing performance
  • Lead the determination of supplier capability, capacity constraints and identification of development requirements, along with driving supplier improvement initiatives
  • Work with the Product Development group as a core team member, providing interface back to the full SCM team
  • Proactively communicating potential issues and interruptions in supply
  • Identification of new or alternate sources of supply, including both onshore and offshore possibilities, targeting lower end to end cost of supply to Ballard and alignment with the long-term supply chain strategy
  • Working in a team environment to optimize supplier quality, on-time delivery, lead time and cost
  • Creating tender and RFQ packages for required materials as necessary
  • Work with other functional areas across the organization to solve any issues related to material supply, including discrepancies against order or invoice


Requirements

  • A degree in engineering, business or commerce
  • Recognized Supply Chain or Purchasing accreditation
  • 5 - 10 years of experience in a senior supply chain position
  • Exceptional negotiating skills
  • In-depth experience and understanding of ERP or MRP system
  • Experience in purchasing capital equipment and negotiating service level agreements
  • Experience in managing a global supply base
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage challenges while continuing to meet deadlines and achieve goals
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment
  • Strong time management skills and multi-tasking capabilities
  • Detailed and highly organized
  • Ability to working independently, and, in a team environment


The typical hiring range for this position is CAD$75,000 - CAD$93,800 per annum. In determining total compensation, Ballard considers many factors, including the successful Candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, experience, position location, and internal equity.
