Job Description

Seaspan Marine is the largest and most diverse tug & barge company on Canada’s West Coast. Our services include Ship Docking, Tanker Escort & Emergency Towing and Tug & Barge Services. We also offer ship bunkering and ship building & repair through our affiliated companies. Seaspan Marine has a large fleet of tugs that includes the most modern, powerful fleet on Canada’s West Coast. Our extensive fleet of over 100 specialty and general-purpose barges provide critical transportation for many of BC’s largest industries.

The Intern, Finance will be responsible for providing support with accounting and reporting responsibilities. The role will include month-end entries, account reconciliations, supervising of accounts, preparing accruals, analysis of results, financial reporting, documentation of procedures and project support. This position supports all aspects of operational finance & accounting within the division. The role reports to the Manager, Finance Planning/Analysis.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 10 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist with special projects.
  • Work on budget and forecast templates updates in support of team.
  • Prepare and record month-end accounting journal entries.
  • Assist with the preparation of month-end reports.
  • Review and analyze accounts and results.
  • Calculate and record month-end revenue and cost accruals.
  • Reconcile various GL accounts.
  • Reconcile accounts to sub-ledgers.
  • Analyze account balances at month-end as needed.
  • Other accounting and financial duties as required.


What You’ll Bring

  • Enrollment in a 2nd or 3rd-year undergraduate degree program in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration.
  • Completion of introductory accounting classes is preferred.
  • Demonstrated project and/or contract knowledge, and skills through exposure to class projects or co-op terms.
  • Outstanding analytical skills to capture, analyze and process large amounts of data.
  • Innovative thinking skills, with the resourcefulness to get to the source of truth.
  • Outstanding integrity and honesty in all situations.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organization skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language, verbal and written.
  • Experience and strong comfort with Microsoft Excel.
  • Outstanding problem solving and research skills.
  • Minimum 50 WPM typing skills.
  • Strong academic results.

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.

Start Date of Internship: January 6th, 2025

End Date of Internship: August 29th, 2025
