About You
We are looking for Energy Management Engineers and Specialists at the Intermediate to Senior levels to join our Energy Team. If you have built a strong practical foundation on building systems design, primarily of HVAC systems, have a good orientation and passion for energy efficiency and sustainability, this might be the opportunity you are looking for!
About the Role
As an Energy Management Engineer/Specialist, you will provide energy efficiency upgrade recommendations and design mechanical and control systems for various efficiency upgrades mainly in commercial, municipal and institutional buildings, including the development and implementation of sequence of operations to achieve maximum energy efficient building operations.
Your responsibilities include:
- Conducting energy studies, carbon neutral studies and low carbon technology analyses and evaluations of energy savings in facilities
- Carrying out the review of controls sequences, reviewing and evaluating program code and identifying opportunities for control optimization for various control system manufacturers
- Providing conceptual design for mechanical efficiency upgrades and deep retrofit upgrade
- Preparing cost estimates for these proposed energy upgrades
- Designing mechanical and control systems upgrades for energy retrofits
- Preparing tender packages for procurement of equipment, installation and commissioning of upgrades and site reviews of installation
- Providing coaching and advice for Energy Managers and Strategic Energy Management Programs
- Providing analyses of utility exception reports and support to Prism’s Utility Monitoring and Analysis (PUMA) software clients
Individuals at the Intermediate level apply their practical knowledge typically obtained through an equivalent of 6-10 years of work experience. They work independently with general supervision, manage small- to medium- sized projects, and solve problems that are difficult but typically not complex. They may influence others within the job area through explanation of facts, policies, and practices.
Individuals at the Senior level apply advanced knowledge typically obtained through more than 10 years of work experience. They manage larger projects and processes, working independently with limited supervision; coach and review the work of more junior professionals; and solve problems that are difficult and sometimes complex.
The salary range for this role is $85,000 to $120,000 annually. We will consider your level of experience and responsibilities, competencies, and unique offering to our team.
Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
We are looking for a combination of many of the following qualifications, competencies and experience:
- A relevant Diploma or Bachelor degree (ideally in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Management or Systems Design)
- P. Eng or eligibility for registration with EGBC, CEM, CMVP, SEMAC, LEED and other equivalent certifications
- Strong practical foundation and experience in building systems design and retrofits, primarily of HVAC systems, in commercial, institutional and/or industrial buildings
- Energy management and control systems design skills, including performing energy management calculations, computer simulations, building automation and energy monitoring and tracking.
- Skilled application of the BC Building Code, Vancouver By-Laws, Canadian Electrical Code, ASHRAE and other applicable codes and standards.
- Ability to work effectively with clients, building users, consulting engineers, project managers, contractors, and product suppliers.
- Consulting experience
- Project management experience
- Mentoring, coaching, and/or leadership of others
- Proficient communication (oral and written) and technical writing skills in English
- Computer application skills (ie MS Office)
This is a 40-hour per week salaried position in a hybrid work environment with flexibility for working hours. The candidate will be based in our Burnaby Office and must have the ability to travel locally with occasional trips to other BC communities and provinces across Canada.
