We are in search of an experienced Construction Manager with a talent for leading complex projects in the Electrical Utilities sector to join our Western Canadian team, where you'll drive success in Transmission & Distribution projects characterized by high complexity and diverse scope, collaborating with top-tier professionals and stakeholders. You’ll leverage your expertise to uphold excellence in quality, safety, and efficiency.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Lead the comprehensive management of safety, quality, and environmental aspects throughout the construction project lifecycle, adhering to regulatory requirements and industry standards. 
  • Conduct thorough risk analysis to identify and mitigate primary construction risks, ensuring operational integrity and safety. 
  • Lead the planning and coordination of scheduled outages for construction, maintenance, upgrades, or repairs to electrical infrastructure, ensuring minimal disruption to operations and customer service. 
  • Coordinate acquisition of essential permits, ensuring compliance with construction and contract management practices. 
  • Prioritize work site safety by conducting and providing feedback on Safe Work Observations, leveraging a deep understanding of safety standards and regulations to enhance BC Hydro’s overall safety performance 
  • Develop and implement comprehensive risk mitigation plans by identifying, analyzing, and monitoring various risks, including reputational, environmental, safety, and indigenous relations, to ensure effective management throughout the project lifecycle 
  • Facilitate constructability reviews to optimize project efficiency and success. 
  • Define critical project milestones and implement strategies for effective scheduling and oversight. 
  • Designate construction site work zones, develop security protocols, and ensure emergency response readiness. 
  • Formulate communication plans tailored to construction activities, facilitating effective collaboration and reporting. 
  • Strategically allocate resources for the construction management team, optimizing performance. 
  • Structure construction work packages with detailed scope, schedule, and breakdown, enhancing project management efficiency. 
  • Develop and oversee construction management plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring adherence to quality standards, project, and operational priorities. 
  • Conduct regular inspections and quality surveillance; manage materials and personnel; and facilitate successful project implementation through communication and negotiation skills. 
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on internal committees, contributing to future capabilities, and supporting construction-related activities for project success. 


  • University Degree in Electrical/Civil/Structural/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience 
  • Over 15 years of experience in project management
  • Excellent working knowledge of safety standards and regulations such as Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Standards and WorkSafe Regulations 
  • Effective communication abilities in English, including analytical skills, interpersonal communication, and presentations 

The expected salary for this position is from $122,000 to $160,000 based on the richness and diversity of the candidate’s experience, training, skills and internal equity. The position or associated salary could vary depending on the profile of the candidate.
