Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the the Field Services Manager leads a team in supporting the department, Minister of Education and several Kindergarten to Grade 12 First Nations, provincial education, charter and independent school authorities across a broad geographic area of the province.

The Field Services Assurance Officer promotes innovation and system effectiveness; monitors and provides direction to First Nations and provincial education authorities for compliance on planning, reporting and accountability/assurance requirements; and is accountable for ensuring First Nations and provincial education authority compliance.

The position also supports First Nations and provincial education, charter and independent school authorities with issues management and fosters continuous improvement.

The responsibilities for this role include:

  • Lead the ongoing process of private school monitoring, evaluation and accreditation recommendation.
  • Lead the ongoing process of charter school evaluations, recommendations for charter amendments, action plans, renewals and commencements.
  • Lead the School Program Declaration process for First Nations education authorities providing assurance the requirements are met to award graduation certificates.
  • Lead and develop sector communication to stakeholder organizations (i.e. College of Alberta School Superintendents/Alberta School Boards Association, etc.).
  • Manage the Provincial Microsoft Licensing Agreement Grant for Education/Advanced Education which would include Request for Proposals (RFP) development and selection process, as well as contract development and management.
  • Engages with principals and the administrative team members of independent (private schools) and charter schools to provide support, direction and guidance on school-based operational and administrative queries as they relate to the monitoring and evaluation process.
  • Coordinates Field Services' ongoing process of monitoring of current accredited private schools and provides insights related to the school's compliance with regulatory and operational requirements as outlined in the Education Act, Private Schools Regulation, Guide to Education and the Funding Manual for School Authorities, and the school's Annual Operating Plan (AOP).
  • Coordinates Field Services' ongoing process of evaluation, recommendation for amendments, renewals and commencement of charter schools, and provides insights related to the school's compliance with regulatory and operational requirements as outlined in the Education Act, Charter Schools Regulation, Guide to Education and the Funding Manual for School Authorities.
  • Establishes and maintains strong communication and working relationships with key partners, clients and stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate information flow and identification of issues.
  • Manage Grant agreements which may include RFP development, RFP selection process, contract development and contract management.
  • Provides expertise and support to the branch and sector management teams including contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of operational plans and the development and maintenance of a shared vision for the branch and sector that defines purpose, outcomes, results and measures in relation to Alberta Education's values and principles.

Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standard:

  • University graduation in a field related to the position assignment, supplemented by 4 (four) years related experience.
  • Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

Assets:

  • Master’s Degree is an asset.
  • Bachelors degree in Education would be an asset - added.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of government strategic priorities, policy directions, and ministry business plan goals.
  • Overall operations of the Kindergarten to Grade 12 education system, including the management of numerous school authorities and schools.
  • Knowledge of MS Officer Products primarily MS Word and Excel.
  • Significant experience in First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit education, including experience in

- Three Treaty areas in the province, including their history, language and culture.
- Good understanding of Indigenous knowledge, traditions and cultures of FNMI people and applicable provincial legislation and regulations.
- Facilitation, mediation and consensus building skills in complex and conflicting circumstances involving multiple people or organizations.

There is (1) permanent, full-time position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
