The Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO), Canada’s Centre for Pandemic Research, is a world leader in infectious disease research and vaccine development for humans and animals. Located at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada, VIDO is home to one of the largest and most advanced containment level 3 facilities in the world. To strengthen the preparedness for emerging infectious diseases we are currently expanding our infrastructure to include containment level 4 capacity, a GMP vaccine manufacturing facility, and a new animal housing facility. Our vision includes having the capacity to study any emerging disease in any animal model embracing a One Health approach to prevent emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases in humans and animals.

We are seeking a Laboratory Research Technician to join our Non-Regulated Process Development (NRPD) team. Our NRPD team provides critical support to the development of VIDO’s internal projects, as well as support to external client projects that require process development. As such, the NRPD team works closely with team members from VIDO’s Vaccine Development Centre, VIDO’s biologics manufacturing facility. As a member of the NRPD team reporting to a Principal Scientist, the successful candidate will primarily be responsible for performing laboratory experimental activities, as well as accurately recording procedures used and data generated. Laboratory experimental activities include, but are not limited to, activities associated with bench scale manufacturing process development, i.e. protein/vector expression and purification.

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree in biomedical or other relevant sciences and/or a BioScience Technology Diploma.
  • Experience in procedures commonly used in recombinant protein expression and purification such as PCR, cloning, mutagenesis, gene editing, transformation/transfection, stable cell line generation, bacterial fermentation, mammalian cell culture, protein characterization (western blot, SDS-PAGE, ELISA, SEC-MALS, circular dichroism (CD)) and purification (cell fractionation, HPLC, multi-modal chromatography).
  • Experience with bench scale bioreactors an asset.
  • Experience using AKTA purification equipment and associated Unicorn software an asset.
  • Significant demonstratable experience in mammalian protein expression an asset.

Status: 1 year term, with the possibility of a permanent opportunity at the end of the term.

Employment Group: Non-Union

Shift: Monday - Friday, 7.5 hours per day (37.5 hours per week)
