SALARY:      $51,000.82   


DURATION OF CONTRACT: One-year leave coverage (November 2024-November 2025)

POSITION SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to oversee the clubs, societies and indigenous student circles program, known collectively as student networks and create lasting partnerships within the Durham College community and the Region. This role will also work closely with other staff at DCSA to help host events throughout the year for students on all campuses.

The position will be responsible for growing the student networks program and ensuring that there are numerous active networks to support a diverse student life at Durham College. This position will also work to promote engagement in DCSA elections and develop strategies to deepen student engagement with the DCSA.


Requirements

Student Networks

  • Manages the development and delivery of the DCSA Clubs in line with overall organizational priorities of DCSA.
  • Continue the launch of the new DCSA Clubs program with the aim of increasing the range of student groups events and activities.
  • Research and recommend changes, and proactively work to encourage new Clubs to be set up.
  • Work with student leaders to ensure the sustainability of networks over successive academic years
  • Approve events and budget for DCSA Clubs.
  • Develops and oversees the use of the DCSA clubs website, ensuring all information and resources available are up-to-date, transparent, ethical, and in line with policies.
  • They are promoting outcomes and activities of student clubs that allow students to translate their experience into employability credentials.
  • General administration duties, tracking and reporting
  • Other duties as assigned



Campus Engagement

  • Together with the Secretary of the Board, organize advertisement and publication of engagement for governance events, including the annual elections and the annual general meetings.
  • Coordinate activities to further the engagement of students and actively seek out connections with members with a view to foster an engaged student community.
  • Work with Academic Departments to develop and deepen representation of each faculty and their respective Student Voice
  • Lead the DCSA Whitby Campus engagement program for enhanced student experience on the Whitby Campus, including ensuring solid student networks for the Whitby Campus and awareness of all DCSA services
  • Act as a liaison with the Student Development department regarding the activities of the Institute of Student Leadership and other co-curricular activities at Durham College.


Community Engagement 

  • Create solid community engagement opportunities within the Durham College community.
  • Research additional opportunities for student engagement within the Durham Region.
  • Ensure that DCSA Leadership is aware of any major communities' issues within the Durham Region, and work with DCSA Leadership to address any community issues that are relevant to students.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-Secondary degree or diploma in Events, or Volunteer Coordination, or have equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience of working in a similar environment, with events, management, community engagement and volunteers.
  • Solid understanding of a student environment and voluntary sector.
  • Experience in working with and supporting staff, volunteers, with recognition events and training.
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the organization's management in carrying out the strategic direction of the board of directors. 
  • Ability to manage working time effectively and prioritize projects appropriately.
  • Support in creating a welcoming office atmosphere for students, and always being available to support a student with access to our services. 
  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel between and work at multiple campus locations.
  • Ability to work in and support a diverse and inclusive workplace.
  • An understanding and appreciation of indigenous cultures and a commitment to reconciliation with the indigenous peoples in Canada.
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
