Position Title: Senior Accounting Analyst, Savings & Retirement

Reports To: Manager, Pre-Need Insurance

Department: Savings & Retirement (S&R) Finance and Actuarial

Term: Permanent Full-Time

Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.

The Opportunity: Equitable is growing! We are seeking a detail oriented and analytical Senior Accounting Analyst to join our S&R Finance and Actuarial team!

Reporting to the S&R Manager, Pre-Need Insurance , the successful candidate will be responsible for preparing monthly accruals, reconciling general ledger accounts, preparing daily and weekly sales reports, validating claim payments and administration fees and supporting various accounting and reporting functions. This role requires strong Excel skills and offers the opportunity to work with Power BI which is considered an asset.



What you will be doing:

  • Prepare and post monthly accruals in a timely manner.
  • Perform reconciliation of general ledger accounts and ensure accuracy of financial data.
  • Prepare daily sales reports and support semi-annual survey data collection and submission.
  • Review and validate the payment of death claims.
  • Process accounts payable and employee expense reports, ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Review and reconcile administrative fees and commissions relating to our pre-need funeral product.
  • Prepare monthly sales concentration reports on the funeral homes.
  • Prepare quarterly working paper and suspense account reconciliations with appropriate supporting schedules.
  • Support S&R division accounting requirements and projects, as required.

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3years of experience in an accounting or finance role with a focus on reporting, analysis and reconciliation.
  • Solid proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, vlookups, formulas).
  • Knowledge of Power BI is an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Advanced communication and Interpersonal skills
