JOB SUMMARY:

As a key member of the R&D tax team you will work with a variety of business segments within ATS who are at the front line in developing cutting edge automation technology. The successful candidate will get the opportunity to work as part of a diverse team of industry and tax professionals. You will be required to join and eventually lead interviews with senior and lead technical personnel at various ATS locations to help identify the scientific and technological aspects of their projects that qualify for R&D tax credits. You will play a leading role in writing and reviewing R&D project reports and take part in extensive communication with technical leads as well as divisional and corporate finance.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meet with engineering team leads and project managers to develop a comprehensive understanding of the projects undertaken and identify how they meet the various R&D guidelines
  • Write and review compelling technical project reports to bring out the key technical factors of customer and internal projects to support R&D tax claims
  • Prepare persuasive responses to challenges by the tax authorities regarding the technical merit of a project
  • Build and maintain relationships with engineering and finance staff to provide high levels of service to the business units and corporate group
  • Adapt and flex existing knowledge to different business segments and build on core capabilities
  • Training will be provided in the financial and tax implications, preparation, and reporting aspects of the R&D benefits to ATS
  • Occasional travel to the US and Europe may be required

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Degree or diploma in a technical area (Science and/or engineering)

Experience:

  • Science, technology, or engineering industry experience either as a technical writer or technician
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Past R&D tax experience not required, but is advantageous
