Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is looking for a Registered Nurse with experience in venous access devices to join the IV Therapy team at Richmond Hospital, Richmond, BC.  Apply today to join our team!

 

As a Registered Nurse - Infusion / Vascular Access you will:

  • Provide intravenous therapy to clients in safe and effective manner to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Enhance quality of life from the perspective of the client/family.
  • Consult, confer, and collaborate with other health care providers and members of the Infusion Program.
  • Demonstrate expertise and leadership in IV therapy including facilitating and developing internal communication linkages/relationships to advocate for continued usage of the infusion program by unit nursing staff.
  • Maintain and advance your own clinical competence.
  • Participate on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.

 

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.

Education & Experience

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of one (1) year experience with venous access devices.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client/family centred model of care.
  • Broad knowledge of BCCNM standards for nursing practice.
  • Knowledge of the standards of practice for parenteral therapy.
  • Knowledge of principles of asepsis and infection control.
  • Demonstrated ability in IV Therapy such as establishing peripheral IV access.
  • Demonstrated skill in caring for a variety of parenteral therapy devices, including peripheral lVs, CVCs, VADs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill related to medication actions/side effects, anatomy and physiology, fluid and electrolyte balance, blood and blood components, and site selection legalities.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement plans of care in relation to client/family priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess client responses to care, and to respond appropriately. Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and/or collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with, and deal effectively with, clients and their families, co-workers, physicians, other health care staff, and staff of outside agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to counsel and teach clients and their families based on their priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, facilitation, coaching, and work direction.
  • Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of medical equipment and supplies appropriate to the clinical area. Demonstrated skills in CPR techniques.
  • Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized patient care information system.
